Yeah hooning laws are getting tough these days and even if i dont try my engine still sounds loud and cammy so i might just place some sound shield on the under bonnet to keep that noise down a bit..

It costs about $100 and its easy stuff to cut and mould etc.. so i might do that sometime soon.

maybe you don't have the original bonnet ... has your car been in a front end stack? ... it's not unusual for panel beaters to not replace things like the insulation if they stick a new bonnet on a car, it increases the profit margin

Yes both...I didnt think the stock XR ticky cams made the engine so bloody loud, i wouldnt mind keeping that noise down a bit.. LOL even if it works only slightly atleast then it would still be quieter.

does your bonnet have the factory stickers on it, belt tension etc on it? ... if it doesn't, chances are it's not original

My fairlane had the insulation but l removed it to let some heat escape from the engine bay. The hotter my bonnet is after a drive then the cooler the head is. Didnt even think about the wieght as it's all of probably 1 kg.

without any underbonnet shielding you use to be able to almost fry a egg on the bonnet after a bit of a drive. now you can at least touch it. the way i see it if its there its obvoiusly there for a reason.

How so? Its not that bad, as long as the insulation isnt damaged, theres no reason why i wouldnt mind it going back on a new bonnet!

But why pay for new insulation when you can reuse the original :S Its not like its glued up or anything, its just held by little push studs that pull out. So just take it off one, stick it back on the other!
