1997 ford falcon fairmont el sedan problem. the water symbol with the fan on it appears and i check the radiator water and it keeps going low? either blown head gasket or the fans arnt working exactly when they need to and for that the water might be compensating for the lack of cold air from the fans so it uses more water.
what does anyone think, it happens like every 40-50k's driven lol. either blown head gasket or the fans arnt working on time and the water is compensating for the lack of fan work and chewing a s**t load of water? |

the sensor breaks and fills up with water droping down and reading low. just replace it costs about $15 od so from memory.

ehh im leaning towards head gasket blown..how much u reckon do buy another gasket and redo? mechanics are expensive..lol was a 5,000$ fairmont nice paintjob and mint inside so i want this bit really fixed..

Few simple questions.
1. Does it run rougher than nomal and blow a lot of smoke? 2. Are there any puddles of water underneath the car if it idles for a while? If you're looking at doing the head yourself you'll at least need a workshop manual for your car and will need to take the head somewhere and get it serviced. Head gasket kits can be bought from Repco but I would be going into Ford and getting the AU head gasket as they are a lot lot better than the standard one. |

Could just be a broken hose leaking coolant and as it gets warmer more fluid flows through. Get the car to running temp and and see if the fluid just dissapears.

yeah i woke up this morning ready to go to work and the entire water was bone dry empty all coolant gone nothing at all in it lol..oh and then the car didnt start so either d**k battery or distrubutor..its turning over the motor but not enough spark to start it.
when i drive the car the water gets guzzled after 40-50k's driven but not bone dry just drops from max to min and i have to top it up, but i woke up and it was bone dry so im guessing leak in radiator or leak in the hoses because it shouldnt be the head gasket since im not driving it and its disapearing im not to sure bout pudles i dont think so. really need help since my eb got sideswiped so i cant drive that and this car is having issues i cant win lol and i need it for work. thanks pete. |

Get the cooling system pressure tested. That will give you an indication of where it's leaking from!

I would check the heater tap( common problem for them too leak and also the heater hoses connected to it)

It will be easiest to go to a mechanic/radiator place

and they will charge you an arm and a leg.. how do i do the pressure test?

buy a pressure tester... Fits on where the radiator cap does and you pump it up (can't remember how many PSI now) and leave it, come back and see where the water is coming from... you either buy the pressure tester or pay someone to tell you where its leaking from... I can't imagine the pressure tester being overly cheap...
