Well after selling my Wade cam and driving around a week on the stock cam, im kicking myself and cant believe how much power ive lost, so ive ordered another 977b cam but at the same time i thought i'd get the specs changed a little and see what happens

The normal Lobe separation for the 977b is 112, but after reading up on cam basics im getting the profile done at 110

The 977b idle was pretty stock so less lobe sep. should make it more cranky. Also tightening up LS will bring on the peak torque quickly in the cam's power range, more abruptly and peak out earlier. If i remember correctly the 977b starts making power around 2800rpm........ stock cam is around 2300rpm

Whereas a higher LS will have the torque spread out in the cam's power range and good for upper rpm.

So basically im hoping for a high-ish lift cam that has good midrange torque, tough idle and power comes on fast

Will post some feedback when the cam arrives :)

Thats interetsing.. tell them to save the spec.. if it's a goodun.. I might go one too...

I miss the days of rough lumpy idles... my 351 shudders like two puppies under a blanket whe it's idling..

lol i cant really remember

nah, the idle was still pretty stock although it was tuned. The power delivery was as expected, it was flat to about 3000rpm, then kicked it abruptly almost like boost

The 977b is a great all round cam but dies before the redline. The 1521a has a better top end and pulls all the way, but is very flat in the low & mid range revs

I also ended up getting the 1521a done with 110 lobe sep...... now that was a tough idle

Finally an OHC is made to sound better than the almighty crossflow.

Have you got a clip of the 1512a with the standard LSA? Would be interesting to see how that idles.

I miss my CMS Stg 2 cam in my old AU ... would sit at traffic lights and rock from side to side .... the aerial would wobble about. Amusing. Had a nice slow lope to it.

Damn, that is a tough idle! But with 0.524 lift, 217 0.050 duration and 110 lobes you get that!! Basically you had 26 degrees more overlap than a 977B on 112 lobes. Greedy bugger :) With the LSA at 110, what advance / ICL were you running? What rpm was peak torque and peak power?

Going from plenty of reading, it seems adding 10deg overlap increases peak power rpm by 500rpm and reducing LSA 2deg reduces peak power rpm by 500rpm. Basically condensing an increase in power over a narrower range, but punching / revving all that much harder. Was that your general impression?

I'm looking at the AU1645A cam which is the AU version of the 977B, and I asked today for the lobe centres to be tightened from 114.5deg to 112deg. Which sounds good to me!

Cheers

ive got a CMS 3 in my EL, when it idles properly (i still havent tuned it yet) it actually rocks me from side to side in the seat, too bad i have to turn it off in the maccas drive through cos they cant hear me talk into the speaker over the exhaust

When you say 'that' cam, i assume its the 1521a. Do you have any videos of the 977b with 110 LS before it was tuned? Also seems like you were running the cam in that video through a stock exhaust.

'that' cam was the 1521a with 110 lobes, in another car

i dont have any vids of the 977b, but i can tell that it sounded stock like most medium sized cams.

only cams with around 220+ duration @ 0.050" lift, will have a lumpy idle

Is it possible to set up a cam that has a lumpy idle and a powerband that comes in before 3000 RPM?

Was the 1521a cam with the 110deg LS running on a stock ecu or modified?
