Hey
What gains does a Auto XR6 ECU give you over a normal ECU? I know it would change the shift pattern right??? Like make it shift higher and hold the gears longer but is there anything else it would give it in the terms of power???

Changes shift pattern to suit 3.45 diff gears, will actually shift earlier if you have a taller diff (eg. 3.08, 3.23).
Auto shifts off roadspeed not revs.
Power wise, it'll give you sick overrun burbles because it runs richer
I noticed a little bit better throttle response with the XR ECU, sharper midrange, but generally a doughier top end from lots-o-fuel.
Sent smoke signals on WOT shifts too.
Also, smooths the idle of mid-range cams that might get lumpy on non-XR EEC.
All that was with a Dev3HL, exhaust and extractors so may differ slightly with a stock cam.

Wouldnt it run leaner since it is expecting the fuel pressure to be 300kpa

Dunno about the 3.23, but with the 3.08 the shift points are a pain in the a***.
Shifts too early, holds onto gear too long, doesnt kick down as easy.
Makes your car slower on the street.
I can live with black smoke and hektik burbles

You could play around with it and feed the ECU a modified speedo signal with a Jaycar speedo corrector, but it's really not worth it in my opinion.
But hey, you could always rip your mate off lol
Seriously though, whack it on Ebay, they fetch a nice price on there.

hmm ok, so u think not worth it even with the other things? I could always sell him my diff??? You can just change the diff centres over right??? If the 3.45 diff was starting to single legger it abit and you put the centre ito the ute with the 3.23 in it would it still be the same??? I cant remember from tech cos it was ages ago

You could just give him the gears, stockstandard has a good post up somewhere about swapping gears over.
I think he was making a doco on it, maybe send him a PM to find out how hes getting along :D

But yeah, if your LS centre was f**k, putting it in a different diff isn't going to fix it.
Only reason to go XR ECU, in my opinion, is for the shiftpoints, or if your non-XR ECU is struggling with a cam..
Having said that, if he really desperately wants it, it's not going to kill the car or anything.
The shiftpoints won't be AS big a problem with the 3.23, though they'd still be annoying I'd think.
