Ok guys, this is the second throttle cable I've had dramas with. The first cable was my XF and now in my XH.

At the moment my XH is getting just over half throttle and it's frustrating as all F**k. I don't want to just whack another one in there and have the same thing happen, so obviously you guys have combatted this issue and I'd like to know what you have done to do so.

My XH has extractors, so I can't put a heat shield over them.

I'm thinking of heat wrapping the extractors and also getting some reflective insulative foil to wrap the cable, but short of that I'm out of ideas.

Let's see your set ups!

I havent bothered to cover my extractors yet, they stupidly hot though, just get some heat shield from supercheapk(like the au falcon stuff) and fit it, easy enough to mould to correct shape

Heat sheild is the go....also helps with NOT cooking the brake booster too.
I also have a strut tower brace too, which holds the accel. cable up too.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Troyman, is the silicone hose the only thing you've done to stop the cable melting? How long has your setup been working for?

Cjh, your setup looks like the perfect way to stop it happening. Cheers mate.

whats the best way to fit a heat shield to pace maker extractors? iv got a set of 4499's going in my futura soon...and my bonnet still has that black fiberous material under it...will that be an issue with the heat from the extractors?

True that. You're not wrong Troydude, not wrong at all. Unless I drill a hole through the throttle to place it... Hmmmm. May have to wait for the M90 & log conversion.

Anyone tried one of these cables?

BA315 ACCELERATOR Cable FORD FALCON XH Ute & P / Van Manual

http://bit.ly/KMj0I9

I'm assuming it's non genuine, but it's cheaper so if it works, I might try it.

looks strangely like the one I picked up recently, It seems to do the job, however I have my wrapped in exhaust wrap where it goes across the extractors.

Former set of redback extractors would get beyond beyond hot, however pacemakers barely get as hot. example, letting car idle for 1 minute I can run my hand along the paceys however if i had the redbacks in, I wouldnt beable to go without 5cms of it without getting too hot.

I have 4499s on my eb and they stay quite cool like everyone has been saying, I'm usig the standard eb heat shield. To modify it I layed it on the cement and put one of my feet on the side to hold it to the ground and used my other foot to bend it out small amounts at a time untill it fit, it Didn't take much.
Is the plastic cracking off the cable above the extractors or look dammaged by heat at all? You'd think the plastic would go before the cable?
When you install the new one just take extra care you don't twist the cable at all during install and clip it into the pedal properly. Had one pop out and it ripped the ball off and shot it into my shin, blood and all, haha.
