OK, i have a leak somewhere, its really s**t me, im filling the water up twice a week.
There is NO visible leaks externally. I have started the car cold in the morning, and sat and watched as it got warmer, nothing. There is nothing coming from the overflow pipe on the resovoir. The water pump has got a bit of s**t on it, but it just looks, and tastes like oil(lol). The hoses are all on tight, not coming from there. Internally, theres no water in oil, in fact the oil is still a nice golden brown colour and its near 10k old. There is no water in the cylinders. So this leaves me in a loss. The old man swears its the radiator, says theres a blockage, but if its blocked, wheres my water?!??!!??. Anyone got any suggestion of wat to look for??

side tanks of radiator - that's where mine leaks, but it only does it after a bit of a harder drive in warm weather (down here over 18 deg's lol)

pull ya thermos out and check the small gap under the radiator, after ages of stufing round i finaly found my elxr8 has got a small leak in radiator on pasenger side right down the botom but no coolant would drip from under car cos its got a spot where it can puddle and not drain out.

Does the car leave a trail of water while your driving? Is there a puddle of water under your car when parked? All I can suggest is, If it is leaking and leaves a slight puddle/trail, look directly above where it is and try and find the leak or problem. Good luck anyway.

out your exhaust? may have to start thinkin about the head? check if theres water in ur oil and if theres moisture coming out of exhaust when its idling/running

hi
it might be leaking from the side of the head under the exhaust manifold near cyl 5.. mine leaks from there but it only leaks when your driving and the engine is hot (running temp)and it doesnt leak when its parked but mine only needs to be toped up once every 3 weeks. if you have extractors its easy to see. you will see a green or rust stain runing down your block.. if you have a std exhaust manifold you will have to get under the car with a torch and you should be able to see.. |

found mine is leaking from the hole on the front of the water pump - slowly dripping out.

have you looked at the back of the water pump?
the heater pipe joins the pump and is sealed via an o-ring. if this is leaking theres a chance its slow and might spray to a mist and evaporate from the heat of the manifold. Heater switch... and associated pipes (all 10+ yrs old) also... can you see a white trail around the cork sump gasket? (might not be visible if your not using glycol). but if so... the welsh plugs might be leaking behind the exhaust manifold and finnaly... head gasket.. could be leaking internally to a cylinder and slowly using water or externally.... again under the exhaust and you'll be only able to smell it if you cant see it that is (again if you use coolant) lets hope its not the last one

there is no trail, or patches...hence my confusion....also, its not in my oil, as i said, the oil could not be better...10k old and still looks like it was put in an hour ago...thats pretty good i reckon.....not goin out exhaust, only normal condensation, very very very little.....not as much as if it were the head.....
So ill be checkin under the thermo's and the bottom as the other guys stated.....could save me $950 as f**k mechanics kept sayin it was head.....but it didnt seem right....

In a previous falcon, I discovered my leak was coming from the water pump. It only ever appeared under high pressure in the system (lot's of revs). So even when it was sitting in the carport with the engine idling I couldn't find it. I only found it when the crack in the water pump expanded enough and I lost most of my coolant while travelling home.

Drive down to a radiator place and get it pressure tested, most of the time they wont even charge you as they may get a sale.
When people ask me to check a water leak i have a quick visible look then throw a pressure tester on it, then i'll do a chemical check to make sure there are no exhaust gases in the cooling system. |

If you do get your cooling system pressure tested, make sure they test the cap as well - the often recommended cable tied coke bottle with the overflow hose in it is a good idea - run it for a few days and see if it fills. It's not uncommon for 'new' caps to be faulty as well.
If they don't have a chemical test - use the pressure tester to pressurise the cooling system while the engine is running, if you say you're losing a fair amount of water - the gauge should be noticeably flickering if there is a headgasket leak.

I have the same problem mate, I have a very slow leak from my waterpump o-ring and a slow leak from my radiator. I never have any puddles and fill mine up bout every three weeks. Can you smell coolant burning when your sitting in your car after a long drive and it is just idling???? I know i can smell the coolant. For you i'd be more inclined to check your radiator though. Hope this helps. I know how it feels it had me f**k for ages to find where my coolant was going.
