The El 6cyl has a whizzing(whistleing) noise which gets louder as you rev the car, it sounds like the noise from the pwr steer when you turn your wheels in a stationary position.

It gets louder with revs and as engine comes down from say 3500rpm it gets less and less loud. But it isn't loud when you turn the car around in a carpark only when you get the revs up in a straight line.

Any idea's

I though it might be the pwr steer pully but it does it when the car is in the shed at idle in park( no load on the rack)

Could it just be a noisy pwr steer pump?

I have put a new belt on and no signs of leaks anywhere (car has done 135000km on the odometer)

I'm having these issues at the moment.
Did the twin idler tension pulleys today. Doing the water pump in 20 days.
All these has shot bearing. The water pump makes a tinny thrashy bearing noise with revs. s**t me all this.

Sounds like idler pulley is U/S.
I just replaced mine on an I6, cost me $88.00 at Denmac ford, Darra.
Fixed the noise ;-)

claim the noise is a suedo-charger (kind of like a super charger but not).

thats what i did for 6 months, people thought it was supercharged.

but yeah, sounds like the tensioner pulleys.

Either that or they thought you had a bad pulley with bad bearings, and thought you were a lazy d***head for not fixing it for 6 months 8-)

is that fraud pricing or spare parts pricing from coventry, repco, etc?
