Hey I'm looking to Buy a F6 Typhoon however one of my reason for hesitation is the limited ability to upgrade the headunit.

dose any one know of a way to remove the headunit (that also runs the climate control) but i dont want to not be able to use aircon, or be stuck with it on one setting for ever...

i want to put in a decent 7" moniter (prefrably a headunit that isnt touch screen)...

you guy's know any thing?

i think most people mount aftermarket stuff under the factory one. if you got a fold out 7" screen that fits into a 1/2 din slot you might be able to do the same?

It really annoys me off when companies design there audio systems just to limit the upgrade ability... like couldn’t they just have the controls... lol I know it was prob a good idea to the person not wanting to do up there sound system... but i want 7" screen :'( lol

its so annoying caz Holden dose it too...
all good cars have down sides I guess...

just a through the low model BA falcons do they have separate climate control? if so would they fit/work?

hey mate the for centre console actually controls alot more including the imobilizer so any tampering can cause the car to not start. however if you are looking at getting a 7' screen you could just change your icc which isnt that expensive there are usually a few on ebay they come in the teritory but its all the same s**t. the other thing you could look at is this
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show-of ... 004-a.html

and for other parts try
http://esvc000918.bne001tu.server-web.c ... rades.html

hope this is helpfull

The alpine Hub system will allow you to do alot more than watch DVD's. you can plug near to anything into the system. Just check out the Alpine web site.

I've added a after market DVD head unit to my GT-P.

It really isn't that hard. Most car audio places will have done enough B series by now to know what to do. Or tackle it yourself.

I didn't remove the stock unit, simply bypassed it for everything - I'm not using any of the factory wiring either, power and speaker wires are all brand new direct runs. Then I added a video converter to it so I can use either/or the ICC screen and the touch screen on the Pioneer.

The hardest bit is running the cables. B series' are built much tighter than E series, so running power and RCA cables is physically harder to do.

Nah you can't change the screen (it's almost 7" anyway). And you'll need some kind of interface to make it work with external sources.

I think you have your priorities wrong, if your thinking of a Typhoon, but worried about the stereo.

haha agreed... i just got one of outsource units that sits under the seat and gives you sub and amp out.. ran it through the stock head unit. Cheaper than doing a huge upgrade, similar result.
But seriously, not buying a typhoon cause you cant put a big system in it? wow..

Any car audio place will be able to do them (I don't mean, JB/supercheap/autobarn/strathfield/etc.)

Or if you're handy with fibreglass do them yourself.
Here's some early tests I made (ended up not using them)

AFAIK the place no longer makes them (due to a dispute with their mould maker) but in case they do it's these guys: http://www.equibs.com/
