What exactly is the "media expander"?
What does it do?
And does it only feature on Alpine HU?

each brand will have it's own version under a different name..... basically it plays around with the MP3's frequency range making it sound a hell of a lot better

here is Alpines description

"Another great new quality-boosting Alpine technology. Included on a variety of head units, it gives you selectable expansion modes for MP3, CD, DVD, and FM that restore quality lost in recording/transmission"

but it doesnt work for WMA? does it?

Ummm, wire it in and turn it on

Nice head unit...media xpander is a good feature for poorly recorded tracks / low bitrate MP3's.

The alpines are a great unit special the top of the line ones, It takes some time getting use to the features of it but you will be very happy with it. The MX is a pretty good feature it cleanse out the music and makes it sound great. Check out ipersonalise on alpines website makes it easy to set the headunit up with and then you can download the settings and load them into the deck.

Regards,
Mark

media expander is basically just the same as pressing "loud" on any other headunit.

it basically just boosts all the frequency ouputs, especially at low and high range.

It's actually a replacement for BBE on older Alpine headunits AFAIK. Similar results to pressing 'loud' on other headunits...but a more accurate result IMHO.

Ahhh....

LoL so it's another flashy name for the "Loud" setting. Although i do believe it sounds better. :)
