I've got the carputer running like a dream now, so I'm playing with all of the little things - currently recording all of the WAP's (Wireless Access Points) around Gladstone and storing their locations on Google Earth.
Looks a little like this - 
Basically, if I need to connect to the internet while driving around, I know the spots where I can do it (the green spots). I can even maintain constant internet connection while driving if there are enough WAP's on my route. You can see the path I took around town to find them. I have yet to do everywhere, but that will come eventually. Panda

I use Netstumbler http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ to log the WAP's. I also have a GPS Receiver which Netstumbler uses to record the position of the WAP.
With this data saved, I go to this website - http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=wifi and convert the Netstumbler files into Google Earth .kml files. Then in Google Earth I add this new .kml as a placemark and it displays all of the WAPs in their correct co-ordinates. Easy hey? Panda

As little as $500 if you DIY, more like $1000-$1500 to buy it Panda

Netstumbler is the program that figures out where the WAPs are located, and all of those GPS co-ordinates are displayed as waypoints on Google Earth. Panda
