I'd much rather (personal taste here).

Visor screens: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... PcN__Shops

Either continue with my current HU (which does all formats but DVD. so SVCD would be the go). or get one of these.

Cheaper than the fancy motorised indash screens, which are hideously overpriced.

But the products look good.

i have this unit mentioned
Ex-Audio Ex-1602 7" TFT One Din DVD Player System

bought it thru a mate... having problems with it now after about 3 months of owning it. laser pickup is dead! can't tell if there is a disc in the unit. it takes the disc in, but doesn't realise its in there.

otherwise, screen quality is good, sound is good and the motorized screen works well. trying to get it fixed now, anyone know any decent after market repairers? (looks to daniel and neo_nick)
tried pattison car sound in blackburn, their in-house tech reckons he can't get the parts. gonna try gary's car radio in mitcham - they fixed it last time when i popped the power supply. (should have wired my own fuse damnit)

is it dead or dirty? try a cleaner, sometimes its the simplest answer, as for replaceing the laser, try a home dvd player repairer, should be able to replace it seeing as its the same thing

vibrate: yup, cleaned it and reset it. worked for about 2hrs then died again. tried the same process, didn't revive it :( i'll see how gary's go with it

stuzzy: i bought it as soon as it landed in the country. read the terms and conditions of the warranty. the warranty requires you to send it back to the country of origin at your cost, and it can take months, if u are lucky to get it back. i figured it would cost about as much to get it fixed here as it would in transport costs, and at least i'd get it back in 5 - 10 working days not 5 - 10 months :) i'll see how it goes
also, u don't know if its a sharp manufactured screen. sharp in clarity perhaps, but maybe not sharp the manufacturer. the wording from the advertisement could be read either way.

on the other hand, i've heard that pioneer are bringing out an new all-in-one unit for about $1200 later this year. 7" screen, motorized in dash. not sure if it was touch screen as well!

Pioneer already have units with 7" motorised screens/dvd player/cd player/GUI all built in and im sure there is a varient with the touchscreen, cool factor 10/10!
I bet it will be more than 1200 tho, going pioneer units these days are like 2500-4500, expensive yes, nice unit yes, worth it yes at good price.
Im not sure where you could send it to be repaird, id honestly ask somewhere like jb or a specialty car audio place of some reccomendations.

this is from a bloke who works at a car audio retailer near my work who went to the pioneer product launch for 2005. also telling me about the upcoming pioneer tv unit which will also have inputs for your speedo, tacho etc!!! pretty crazy...

they also had the pioneer AV7550 (the current 7" touch screen from pioneer) which retails on the website for $4399 and they had it advertised for $2399!!! thats before u even start haggling!

LCD's are coming down as they becoming more "mainstream"

What makes you think they will come down more than the 2399 for it with haggling? Did they say they will look after you? If so thats a freekin awesome price for off the shelf legit with warranty/reciept.

My pioneer 7" motorised screen with inbuilt cd player / pioneer Audio Visual Module with small amp built in / pioneer 6 disk DVD stacker / remotes / cables all new cost me 2100, Ebay/CAA, gotta love it so long as its all legit n brand new :!:

it was on the shelf with a price stuck to it of $2399. i'm sure with a wad of $50's in ur hand they would be willing to negotiate a few $$$'s here or there :)

u got urself an awesome price too... how'd u manage that? thru ebay and CAA?!
