what is with ford????
after 15 years modding jap cars, and never needing more than 10 minutes to install a head unit, i pull out the factory tape deck in my EF fairmont to find it is mounted on a wierd bracket. It turns out that unlike jap cars u cannot screw an aftermarket HU straight into the dash, even worse, the factory bracket doesnt even come close to lining up with the new HU. before i start grinding, welding and lathing some custom mounting system can u guys give me some advice as surely the othe 74 million ef/el's on the road dont all still have their factory tape decks cheers, mitch |

my pioneer head unit fitted straight in, with a bit of assistance of course (jamming it lol) but it sits in perfectly.

I rebent mine slightly and they fit up nicely now.

For my Kenwood a few years ago, I think I actually turned those side brackets upside down to make it fit.

Yeah, I've installed Pioneer head units in EA, EB and EF using the stock brackets.

...nothing wrong with Ford, their bracket mounting system is damn strong and stable unlike some Jap cars...and since the tape deck wasn't going to skip during bumps, why not make them strong and sturdy...stops rattling unlike some Jap cars of the same time with stock H/U.
To help you with your issue. Remove the original mounting brackets from the original tape deck, mark out where holes can/should be drilled onto the bracket to your desired location of the H/U. Then drill the holes so it's big enough for the thread to push through easily, then using a larger drill bit, drill into the same hole but only half way, that way the mounting screws sit flush, rather then sticking out and making it a nightmare put back into the dash. yep as mentioned use the brackets from the original headunit
i had to drill mine out a little to fit on the new Cd player, and i only put one screw on each bracket so they had enough play to slide the Cd player in without trying to hard

used the original brackets to fit three sony headunits in ea, ed and el and a jvc headunit in ef falcon using original brackets without much hassle. and to top it all they sit just perfectly in there churning out loud tunes

can sum1 please tell how to get the case thing off around the stock stereo n a el fairmont ghia, got that screw out on the bottom left of the ashtray, but it aiint lose where the cigerette lighter is so yeh. need sum help...
