can anyone point me in the right direction to installing a sub into a series 3 au xr6 while keeping the original head unit??

i assume we need to buy the ford/pioneer amplifier.

is the wiring for the amplifier already in there???

Firstly it would depend on if the factory head unit has pre-outs (very doubtful) otherwise you need an amplifier that has high level inputs.
Secondly as far as I was aware the factory amps are Alpine not Pioneer.
Thirdly if it is not factory fitted then the wiring will most likely not be there....

so if the subwoofer and amplifier aren't installed at factory, they use a different wiring loom to the cars with the sub and amp installed???

anybody installed a premium system into a car with a standard system from factory?

just after an estimate of the work that needs to be done. if its too hard i'll be going for aftermarket gear i guess. be nice to keep it all ford though (yeah guys i know ford don't make the stereo's)

Alpine make a unit which will integrate into any standard audio system and will allow the user to expand their system in almost any way

This is getting expensive though, To be honest its much easier to just get an aftermarket deck and go from there.

other than than there are converters which convert normal speaker wires to RCA. obviously if you do this one set of speakers as well as subs must be run off an amp

if you're spending money on a sub..
you'll need to spend money on a decent amplifier and headset.

if you don't have a headset with direct sub control, you'll find you will get very sick of the level of bass!

a basic set up would be.

Pioneer headset (with direct sub control) = around $300
700W Alpine Vpower amplifer = around $450
Sony 4gauge wiring kit = around $120
and the sub.

that'd give you a nice set up.

oh and if you don't want to buy the new headset.
the Alpine Vpower 700W amplifer will hook up to any factory headset.
