I was thinking about getting a Head Unit for my Futura which i picked up a couple of weeks back, as it has still got the stock tape cassette/radio deck and i was wondering on what are your opinions on what brand I should get.

I was thinking an something Alpine cause they seem cool and kinda match me car, aswell as having a good reputation and all.

Pioneer is better value for money
They're also more user friendly.

But lets fact it, some people are pioneer others are alpine.
Me, I'm pioneer but either way they're both good products.

Also if you have an iPod pioneer now can charge and access the ipod through the deck with a $100 accessory.
It basically acts like the ipod was a cd stacker.

I have heard both Eclipse and Alpine and I dont believe that to be true.

Eclipise are excellent value for money with plenty of features and worth consideration. In my opinion they do not look as good as some other brands cosmetically and the menu's are harder to use.

I find the higher end Alpine units to have heaps of great features and allow for sstem expansion but if you dont have that money to spend (around the $800 mark) then i'd go with Pioneer.

I find there mid priced units are excellent value, look good are easy to use (eaiser than both Alpine and Eclipse)

Try to get one with 2 x RCA outs. You will find this worth while later down the track and also for re-sale value.

i didnt believe it either until i listened to eclipse.
as for ease of use i find the eclipse excelent, just simple things like when in a menu the buttons that you have to press to adjust anything flash to indicate what you need to press. they are a unit that have been designed by by independent enginees so its just well thought out i recon. but i agree they are not the most attrective unit but i bought mine for the sound not the looks cos i prefur a more 'stelth' stereo. But each to their own.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am actually leaning towards Pioneer now as it all comes down to how much moolah I have. I should be able to get big discounts of head units anyway due to my Brothers-Boss-Brother owning a Car Audio Place.

Anyway thanks again, appreciate the advice.

More suggestions are still welcome as well :P
