I've been reading a few articles about the installation of mini pc's in cars and was wondering if any members had tried an installation of this kind. I know alot of people have tft screens and dvd players, not to mention the odd playstation here and there, but with this type of setup you'd have unlimited mp3 storage, the possibility of 6.1 ch sound etc. Some articles have even raised the possibilty of onboard dynoing!!! Food for thought...

Theres a thread in 'Interior Modifications' called 'Car Computer' which has some details on both my setup and EF 4.9's setup.

Thanks for that tim.

Apologies for the quality of pics guys. Bloody camera more like a kid's toy than a photographic device!!!! Ah well...

First two shots just show rough layout of the hardware.

3rd shot shows the HDD/power leds in the console and the PC power switch (which one is it............?!?) and the mouse in its new home under the ashtray.

Last shot just a pic of windows media player up n running and my sexy-a** knee cap.

lol ... so right now you have no boot space usable at all?? :P

EDIT: Are there any small screens you can use in a car which are touch screens? Obviously reasonable quality but not huuuge $?

Nah boot space is all usable. Just not the area between the boot and the rear seats.

But yeah, build a supercharged V8 and hauling stuff doesnt really take first priority

Yeah there's plenty of touchscreen TFTs. Most are VGA/XGA (coz obviously going to be used with a PC) so tend to be a little expensive. I guess depends what you call expensive. Prolly get a 7" touchscreen XGA (resolution is incredible on these) for less than $400. Waggin's gettin himself an in-dash touchy... but that's typical Waggin aint it
