I need some advice on building a class B stereo probably in a old laser hatchback, based on a single 15.
Kev Pyro any help will be much appreciated

OK so now not in a hatchback it's gonna be in my Jeep.
-Not a single 15" but 2x 12"
-Eclipse SW6123.4 400w single coil 4 ohms.
-Planning on running off the Alpine V Power MRP-M450 mono I have.
-Street class can I run two mono's?
Any other info would help cheers...............

Also the subs are in seperate premade boxes but want them in a duel box with no split chamber they require 1.80cubic feet therefore I need a box equal to 3.60 cubic feet, thing is what does that equate to in relation to box size. ?mmx?mmX?mm.........

For Street B you can only have

- Up to 2 subwoofer amps or 4 externally bridged monoblock amps. So 2 Class D mono's will be fine.
- 1x 15" or 2x 12" or 3x 10" or 4x 8"s so that you will also be fine.
- If you plan on using a stiffening cap it must be limited to 1 farad.
- Limited to one battery - has to be standard 12 volt battery too ... so no big yellow top optimas...lotta guys miss this point...as im sure the D34s are a 12/16volt hybrid battery and must be located in the same location as the original battery.

Apart from that I dont think theres much else mate

well to be truthfull not quite sure never actually had any experience with ported boxes they have always been sealed. What would you recommend.

Any chance Kev you'd be able to knock up a quick diagram of the 2 ext bridged mono's and the woofer attached just so I'm sure I know what your talking about. Are you talking about just having the RCA's joining the amps...

as to my opinion...im probably not the best to ask...im a big fan of SQL ... depends what your after...are u wanting to compete in DB drag chasing SPL numbers...cause porting the box will produce a higher decible bigger and can sometimes be a really big gain in SPL figures if done properly...eg: port diameter and length tuned properly to match your gear and enclosure.

and yeh dude i dont mind doin up a diagram for u.....just gimme the details of your subs...4ohm was that dual coils ? which amp were u going with for the subs ?

They are 12" Eclipse SW 6123.4, single coil rec power 170w peak power, 350w. I have one amp which is an Alpine V Power MRP-M450 which is 600w max. I plan on purchasing another one of these amps. Also want a 1 farrad cap thrown in aswell.
Just after db want to get somewhere in the high 130 mark. So yeah tuned diameter and length aswell.

As i've never used bridged amps before do you still have just the one trigger cable conceted to one amp and will that in turn power the second?

sorry they're 400w peak power....

sorta wasnt what i was after but looked up the net and they are 200w RMS per coil - are a single 4ohm coil.

Ignore the MRP-M450's MAX rating of 600w ... never go off this value...the amp can produce only 220w RMS for 4ohms at 14.4V....this is the value of voltage your car would produce when running normally 13.8v....

so at 12V it would 200W RMS or less.....these arent the best amps to drive subs....

If you have 2x of these then to run your 2x 12" at their rated potential these will do...but wont be the best option....as to get 130+db....you maybe able to get it.....have you considered a diff option.....do you already have the subs ?

Just to note in street B your car has to remain off while doing your comp run.....so you will only have 12v to play with....this will mean your amp will produce less power.

oh ok see what you mean yeah I already have the subs as its what I have now in my jeep just running off that alpine mono. what else could you recommend... same amps different sub say single 15" or diffrent amp or amps. Prefer to how I could go with what I've got.

hmm honeslty couldnt say what i reckoned youd get with the current setup...a single 15...or single 12 / dual 12"s it aint gonna make much diff and since the DB number seems to be important to you....the prob is the power youd be providing the subs with...whats your budget....say for new amp...for starters

but to also go against what I said i have seen some cars with single Alpine Type S and Type R 12" Sub in street B pull over 140DB

heheh nah dude more than that...im also considering...think ppl would hit me for spending more money so I dunno but Im thinking off maybe offloading some of my gear even tho its only a couple months old...like Alpine MRD-M1005 - these babies produce 700wRMS at 2ohms at 12v and a 1000w RMS at 14.4v @ 2 ohm load.....plus I have my 4x Type-R 12"s that I may consider selling to go up to Type X 12s....
but yeh along those lines

What 2 amps or 2 subs ?

by that i meant just hope ya meaning subs....cause you dont really bridge amps....

If you had a dual 4ohm coil sub you could instead of linking it to a single amp/channel....you could run each individual coil off a channel/amp.....but dont apply since yours are single coils....wo wat did u mean run 2x 200w RMS Eclipse subs together ? where were u getting the 300-400 number from ?

So can i have the question clarified?

Do you want to know what you will get with the gear you are running or are you looking for advice on new gear?

Quick repsonse
1. you could spend $1,000 more on equipment for te jeep and you will struggle to get a better score than you would with your current gear in a hatch.
2. If you are looking for serious SPL and wish to compete what sort of budget would you be working on.

Tips are
- big battery, and you can use the optima's, in fact they are a good choice
- better with 2 x 12's than 1 x 15"
- SPL is a lot more about amp power than woofers. You should try and get 1,000rms + to get some good numbers.

I've seen $200 woofers work fine with over 1,000rms and get over 140db consistently.

Sorry Big Kev im confused now, i'll start again Iv'e been running both these subs in seperate boxes running off the same mono amp for a while now.
I want to know what amp and configuration I should run to try to push these subs into the 130db mark. Street B allows me to run 2 externally bridged amps, what I want to know is it worth buying another one of these amps, or a different one altogether?
What size amp/amps would you recommend to power these subs.
And how big would the box need to be?
Hope this is a bit clearer, cause I can't make hide nor hair of whats been said now.
Thanks again....
