Pioneer P1Y retails for around $780, Its their best qaulity HU designed for SQL without all the fancy flashy buttons on the DEH-9650MP and so forth.

if you want one just give me a bell...

I'm a fan of the Clarion HUs with auxillary input.... forget what mine is, DXZ400 or similar, not current model but a damn good player.

Personally for that money i would either go Alpine (yes thats right i said Alpine) Pioneer or JVC basically you want to look for something that has the 4V or 2X Preouts atleast, sub, bass, treble control etc etc. MP3 playback WMA's etc etc. Easy to use interface and a remote  Makes it a s**t easier, having a remote.

There are Alpine HU's out there for $599 which are not the cream of the crop but they are still very high quality.

Shop around a bit and then make your decision, good luck.

Rockford Fosgate HU's are hard to go past. The RFX9420 is a beautiful unit. RRP in Australia is around $1500, although it can be had from the US, landed near your price range.

4x 8V Preouts, 3 or 4 inputs and also switches composite video. Has 'rear seat' control, which allows you to play a different source, and adjust the volume for a seperate amp (ie, so someone in the back seat can listen/watch a DVD totally separate from the driver who is listening to doof doof)

It is enclosed in a copper chassis for best electrical performance. It is a very simple, easy to read face.. quite stylish. It doesnt have any of the s**t you find on the Jap units.. flashy lights that mean nothing, etc.

I'm running the previous, equivalent model, the RFX9400 and its simply amazing quality!
