HELLO AGAIN. I finally got sick of the Fairmonts oil pressure syndrome and have got another EF (Falcon Futura this time).

I am finding someone to swap the head over (as new one has a leaky gasket anyway)

Have found the colour of paint (KK1, even though the plate on chasis says K1 - bastards!) for the bonnet and front to be swapped onto the Futura.

They are about the same, from what I can tell. Only difference appears to be the latch system has a longer arm to make up for the Fairmonts longer bonnet. It looks as though the actual latch and all fittings are in same position.

Like I've said before, I like the extra lights on the Fairmont, and want to swap the front ends over.

Am swapping the aerials (as Futura doesn't go up and down) and have started selling bits off the Fairmont.

Anyways --- Anyone know FOR SURE if I can swap these bits easily, before I sell the bonnet and front from the grey Futura and get the white Fairmont painted grey?!

Thanks for the hint regarding the lights and the front end swap...

I am an IDIOT! I disconnected the bonnet clip from the pull wire and then dropped the bonnet a bit hard and it stuck back in the bloody thing! My gawd, I could write a long manual on how to remove a EF front end without being able to open the bonnet... It took all afternoon, and I finally have a bonnet that opens again, and the front end off! YAY!

TWO POINTS HERE...
1) You think it's easy, YOU TRY IT!
2) I am an idiot.

Pity we are so far away, we could have swapped! Goddam quite right mister! Sold the GREY EF bonnet and front for $220NZ... Which just about pays for paint!

PAINT --- GUN METAL GREY... Like I said, the colour code on this body says "K1" but no one in NZ has K1 listed in their paint mixes... I got "KK1" made up, and it's a bloody nice colour, but not quite the same. I prefer KK1 actually, but what the hell...

What colour code does your GUNMETAL GREY FORD have on it?

I am probably going to go the KK1 route and just work on getting the whole car slowly.....!

ALSO --- Does anyone know if it is legal to drive around with the lens cover from the indicators missing? They have another lens underneath and they just look oh so cool without the bulbous opaque plastic!

The photo made doing this a lot easier... Already painted the grill surround and the bar across air dam metallic blue (BA XR6 similar...)

Now, who thinks I am an idiot?!

Yeah, too right... It shouldn't be in the X section, other than that I was looking at a wheel issue --- AU on XF, I think it was and must have posted in the wrong forum. Sorry about that....

Rugby poll? What rugby poll? I didn't see no RUGBY POLL? Does anyone else see a RUGBY POLL?

Here's the latest on the cars anyway... Got the bumper off, getting done in MINK GREY (which is red / pinky grey... NOT the same as the car) and the BONNET should be painted this time next week.

Going to try and put rear doors from White Fairmont onto gray one - Electric Windows come with the white ones, so will start making whole car MINK GRAY...

Did the FORDMODS TECHNICAL DOCUMENT on wet and dry'ing the headlight lenses and the "spot" lights in bumper too...

Anyway, here is the HO HUM update.

Whoops obviously none of us moderators noticed this was in the wrong section until now.

Shifted from X series section to Exterior section.

Nah, still not sure! Heaps of advise - Including bottom end (big end) gone etc etc... I personally think the bottom end is fine..But what would I know. I have blown up EVERY MOTOR I HAVE EVER OWNED, other than two. And one bike (Yamaha TZR wth TZB motor - close to 80 horses out of a twin 248cc two stroke) sent me on seven front flips when it decided to hit a car at about 120kmh whilst on the rear wheel coming out of a corner, the other motor died of natural causes due to electrics (Mazda) - The list is extensive, but includes

3x V2 motorcycles (ALL BIG END BEARINGS - slight case of over revving).. One HONDA, One DUCATI and one SPORTSTER.

1x 250cc SINGLE - Cracked head so bad you could put a butter knife straight through it into combustion chamber!

7x Inline Fours (couple of Fords, couple of Mazda 323 turbos, couple of British things - MG and Austin and a Toyota) --- Big end siezure in Telsta, don't know what happened to the second Mazda 323 that hit 230kmh and 240 with the wind behind it (quarter mile in about 14s) but it went BANG and was sold to wreckers on the spot for the price of the mags... Cracked heads in three, warped heads in one. Etc etc etc

s**t, am sure there were more than that...

Now, should I list the damage I've done to other peoples motors? Nah --- Better not... Court is still pending. Hah.

ANYWAY ---- THE POINT...........

I should be able to tell a big end noise by now... In fact, this has been proven... I was at the lads garage and they got a Ford Probe (Mazda?) in with a f**k motor and I said BIG END. Everyone else thought the bloody top end had gone...

Now, I wouldn't be telling you this story unless I was right, of course....

Whatever, the BIG END HAD GONE.

I promise you that the big end sounds fine to me!

Most likely is OIL GALLERY blockage or some such. Am still getting the car painted and spending money on fixing property, so white EF with the $1400 worth of head that won't move will have to wait...

Thanks for tuning in.

Make sure to come back next week when you'll hear Fiend say....

"BLOODY PAINTERS...................."
