are the chrome look fairmont grilles revomable or are they part of the bonnet?

Different bonnet mate. The high end fords (fairmonts, 'lanes and LTD's) had a completely different shape to the falcons, even the XR's. So as far as I know you cannot interchange them. You'll have to change your bonnet...

Thats why Fairmonts cant use XR bars without changing the bonnet. Something to do with the headlights I think.

They actually have to change the lights dont they? The bonnet comes down to the top of the bar, which is level with the bottom of the lights on the high series, and the xr bonnet actually comes up about halfway, so yeah, the bonnet does have to be changed, but not because of the lights :D
