Just tryin to fit my new towbar but can;t seem to get to to of the bolt holes without taking off the rear bumper.
My question is how to take the bumper off. we've takin the bolt off neer the mud guard and the clips down the side but can't seem to get to the clips/bolts near the little light in the middle at the back.
anyone know how to do this????

My guess its an EF/EL or alike

in the boot lift the carpet to the left and right are big plastic plugs, remove them undo the bolts, should slot straight off.

yeh they are ... just a big hint .. take the rear bumper off ..DONT try and be tricky and try fit it without takin it off. it was so easy after we done that. and it also might be wise to weld or really strong glue some wire to the head of the bolts cause your fingers arent big enough for some of the places where u put em.

So are the holes predrilled for towbars in all cars? I want to install one on the AU wagon but not sure how. I have found one advertised, second hand, a 'Caravelle' brand for $120. I'm pretty sure its only a 1600kg for that price. Whats that like for a towbar? Anyone heard of Caravelle brand of towbars?

nah, most of the time you've gotta drill a few extra holes

i've only heard of caravelle, never seen one of thier bars, but i prefer Hayman-Reece or Trailboss

Thanks mate.

Chances are the caravelle is somehow designed strangely and will give me grief. I might just wait until a Hayman Reece comes up sometime.

Had trouble with a bar on my EF - didn't come with a tongue when I bought it and none of the standard tongues around would match the bolt holes so had to get one custom drilled. Pretty sick of sub-standard crap. You get what you pay for with decent brands, hey!

on the ef and el all the holes were pre drilled au should be the same

you need a big torx piece set to get em off and on

for some aftermarket bars the holes arent allways there, i'd say possibly hayman-reece 1000kg bars are the only ones that would match up to any holes that were there from the factory cos IIRC hayman-reece made the ford bars, and the heavier 1590/2300kg bars would need holes to be drilled

Hayman-Reece didnt make the factory tow bars (1600 or 2300kg). Never did in the EF/EL range. And there was only 2 types, 1600 and 2300kg.

Ive had both on my car, both aftermarket. The holes for the 1600kg are there, but they are not tapped with a thread. But you can make the tread with the T50 bolts you are given. The 2300kg requires quite a few more holes to be drilled for the extra supports. Took me about 4 hours to fit.

And yes, the rear bar definately has to come off to make it happen.

I had a factory 1200kg tow bar on my EA, when I upgraded to a 2300kg tow bar (mostly for the square peg hole), I had to drill more holes at the hump near the seats, there was a factory rubber plug on top of the hump for one bolt, but the other 4 13mm holes had to be drilled, bumper HAD to come off and the holes along the back all lined up.
