It may be useless, but its a nice touch.

I can still remember the first time waggin saw them on my fairy - and he kept running over to the car, and lifting the door handle just to make the lights come on.

they were originally intended for the EA-EB ghias with key entry only. But for some reason still used them on Smartlock EBII and ED. Then woke up to themselves with EF

same reason as interior lights come on when you hit the remote in higher spec cars.... that little bit of "we've thought about the customer here" plus it give a touch of class to the whole thing

My EB Fairmont has them and they both still work.

Only illuminates when you lift the passenger or driver door handles and the interior lights switch on as well.

A bit unnecessary, but a cool little feature all the same 8-)

Its actually a good security feature if you have a car alarm. If someone tries to open any of your doors, it will trigger the voltage drop sensor of the alarm and set it of.

They last longer than standard door locks. Why I hear you ask?
The centre ring is a clear hard plastic that looks like it will last forever. The lesser models have a white plastic ring and goes crusty/chalky after 10years and the front of the door lock flap can come out.

I did the swap to my XR with the high series locks and when I was pulling out them out they fell to pieces.

Oh and if you do install them properly (I rewired my whole dash and doors to fairmont spec) they will stay on when you pull the courtesy fuse, so just be warned if you do that and leave it overnight or longer.

Ive noticed the EL ive just bought still uses the crusty plastic ring and has fallen apart, so im going to find an EA-ED high series lock, and swap them over.
