Even When my EL V8 was stock, I thought the insurance companies weren't interested in my business. Hell, I'm 30 and Rating 1.
Then I mentioned my wife was under 25... Sorry Sir, we can't insure that. So my wife wasn't able to use the Fairmont!
Time to go looking for insurance for the modified EL V8 now, at a realistic price, wish me luck there...

s**t! I am with NRMA as well. Gee I didn't realise they could be so picky on the wheels.I only got 15's and was thinking of upgrading to 17's. Lucky you posted this topic before I bought any. Did they have any problems with the Sports Exhaust and the Extractors? Or was it just only the wheels they Bounced you on?

Go buy a classic wreck, then insure it through SHANNONS!

I have a 67 mustang, 5.0 EB Fairmont, Toyota Townace and Home and contents for under $1000

3rd party should be a breeze to get. Try JCI, only charging me 300 odd a year for 3rd pty etc. and this thing's modded to the hilt. Actually 3rd pty only went up $8 when the blower went on.

Advice: if you like comprehensive insurance do not - i repeat, DO NOT supercharge your car.

I'm with NRMA, $600 /yr full comprehensive for my EF 6. It's only valued at 8500 or there abouts but if it gets pinched what I save in the premium will make up for it not being insured for much.
They list the 17" wheels as 7.5" alloy or steel rims
CD player, sub amp etc as "sound system"
lowered suspension (not more than 30mm)
and "sports exhaust"
I didn't know they kicked up a stink about the extractors. I have a sports exhaust on my policy and as far as I'm concerned that covers the extractors! :)

I'm with JCI and they were pretty much the only mob that would insure me. Admittedly my replacement value is 15k on a 95 XG with a fair few mods so at leats that's good. $1100 a year, full comp, pricey.

NRMA was for full comprehensive and its not the 17 inch wheels they are worried about its the 8 inch wide rims ... they didnt care about the extractors or sports system or window tinting .
As i said i had been with them for ten years and was only paying $400 a year for full comprehensive insurance ...no clames no bad history ect ect
