Just woundering if anyone has attempted to paint there own car and if so what type of paint did you use?
If you look at my pics in the gallery you will see i have painted the bottem sides, back and the front bumper in a gloss black done so with 3 differen't shaped paint brushes but im finding after afew months the paint starts to peel no matter how many coats i do and theres different patches of blue paint on the car (touch up paint that failed) that i would like to clean up as well so i figured why not paint the whole car in black but to do this i need the right paint and alot of time to do it but it doesn't have to be professional but it has to look better then it does with all the different blue paint patches im seeing and im pretty sure i could do a fine job but at the same time i dont want to stuff it up. Any ideas are welcome. |

well i proper air gun with a proper prep job.
i dont think the way your doing is wrong. but hey, this is just me lol

I have done several repsrays, i have used acrylic, 2pac and enamel. My pick, (and most others) is 2pac, it is tha bomb. It does cost more to buy the products though. Alot of people use acrylic on a budget, or the ease of the job. Forget about enamel. So it kind of depends on what paint form you want to use, there are some fillers and primers that can work with 2pac or acrylic and visa versa, but make sure on purchase, you buy compatable products.

Lol at the paint brushers.....
mate its called a spray gun and an air compressor. painting a car is not as easy as you think! If you dont know how to hold a spray gun or the technic on how to paint you have no chance. Its not like using a spray can there is alot more involved trust me. Im at tafe atm learning how to become a vehicle spray painter and i tell you what its alot of work. |

Yup i've heard of a spray gun but i didn't buy 1 for the painting i was doing which is just the sides, back and front, if i was to do the whole car i wouldn't use a brush but also i dont have the right enviroment to spray my car either and after reading these posts over and over im thinking im best off letting a expert do it i just dont want to pay alot of money since i think the paint job i got now is fine im just not 100% happy in some areas and would to fix them up.
Thanks for your reply guys and atm looks like i need a new head gasket which u can read in my other post but once thats sorted out then i may get some1 to paint my car as everything else mechanically with the car is fine after getting more repairs done to it and since i'll be keeping this car for awhile the last thing i gotta do is make this paint look better then it does already |
