My power antenna is a bit broken...
It wont extend fully, gets about 2/3's up then
thump, thump, thump. Retracts OK to full down position.

Is this fixable..??

Chances are there is a problem with the mast not the motor.
Remove the unit, then open the lower casing. From there you should be able to remove the mast. With the mast removed, examine the plastic runner inside the mast for damage. If its damaged the mast will need replacing.
If its still ok, clean the runner with CRC or WD 40 and wipe dry. test mast oin hands by extending and retracting several times. It should move freely.

Yeah sounds like it's binding. Also check the telescopic segments for dings, kinks or damage.
Read the FAQ's in this doco: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=69

While we're on a similiar subject has anyone considered installing a BMW fin antenna?

Something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Silver-E ... dZViewItem

Might go see audiocom about it later on in the week.

Hi, there. I've just replaced the mast on my EF Fairmont. It work fine initially, but this morning I noticed that the antenna doesn't retract fully, sticks out about 3cm when I switch the radio off.

I now know that I should not try and force it down 'cos the cable WILL break! Any tips?

Check the mast for kinks. Remove mast and clean it as I posted earlier.

When mine was not retracting all the way down it was grit inside the mast.

Hopefully find time this weekend to have a look at it.
