I assume that as you have the digital dash, that there is only an oil pressure warning light and no gauge.

When you start the car when it is cold and at idle, does the light come on or only after the engine has reached operating temp?

only after it reached about a third of the temp gauge so operating temp.

Im gonna get a new oil pump and oil pressure switch anyway after what you said.

If you have oil pressure when cold and then loose it when the engine is warmed up, I would say that your bottom end is stuffed (mains).

Main bearings, oil pump should be OK if its not full of metal.

Thanks heaps SWC, how big a job is main bearing gonna be, are we talking massive dollars here? i believe the engine had a top end rebuild 60,000 kms ago

Engine out to do it. Main Bearings etc, possible crank regrind, gaskets etc.

May as well do a full rebuild or replace it with a know good engine.

more the first two ... but yes all 3. if you can replace engine with a known good engine as grumps has mentioned. less $$ upfront

Well shes back from the trusty ol' mechanic again and he believed it was the oil he put in, being too thin.

Replaced filters and new thicker oil.. lets see how we go.

to be honest im not even sure what that is.

He used 20W50, does that mean anything?
