okay guys.
done a few things to my car now its the holidays but the biggest thing i wanted to do and run into trouble with is the locking. so the central just goes up again when pressed down. this also happens when i press the button in the centre consol. goes down then up again. and this also happens when i lock with a key. so my car doesnt lock. now i believe this started happening when the car was reversig and the passenger door swung open and got snapped back by a tree. door was bashed back into place and everything else works fine. so i took the door trim off but i have no clue what to do. any ideas whats wrong? elf. |

Hi,
Does the horn make a few quick sounds ? It may think a door is open. Push in the interior light switch of the door that got hit. If it then locks that will be your problem. If so glue a rubber block to the door to make sure the switch is pressed in when the door is shut. Check the tailgate also, I had an EF and it was the cause. Regards 96ELGli

thanks for the response.
the button pushed in but the car still didnt lock or the light still didnt go off. i had a look at the tailgate but i cant find anything that might register if its open. any ideas? thanks. elf. |

one of the actuators might be stuck causing the cycle. I assume both front door lock buttons move up and down as per normal. If so it may be a stuck rear actuator. Pull the door trims off the rear and have a look at the actuators.

Okay ill take a look. Any idea how to access the back ones though? If I unplug them should the others work? Thanks.

it must be the boot. i took off the plastic trim but under is just metal. anyclue how i can get in there? or even just unplug it? thanks again guys. elf. |

You can unplug the tailgate actuator then the door actuators should work properly then. Only downside is you will have to lock/unlock the tailgate by key.

You will see 4 zinc plated bolts, Undo them and also remove the number plate because there is another one behind the number plate. Then the outer panel will simply pull off....Unplug the wire and you'll see the tailgate actuator.

okay thanks for that.
i actuelly isolated the problem and kind of fixed it. turns out it was the passenger door. even though it went down and then up just like everything else. so i unplugged it and jammed the lock so its always locked. now i can lock the rest of the doors and boot, and just need to unlock from inside the passenger door. it gets fairly annoying but it means my new stereo is safe and my parents are happy my car wont get stolen. i looked at pick a part and a new ddoor would be 60$ not much but would there be a cheaper way to fix it? thanks. elf. |

My EFII wagon does the same kind of thing with the door lock buttons on all doors going up and down like four little fiends. But strangely this seems to depend on the weather. When it’s cold and damp its the cl works as it should, however, when the sun is out and the air temp is warmer then away go the buttons – up and down they go grrrrrr!
When I keep the key in either of the door locks and after having turned the key to actuate the central locking the mechanism fights against the key, but the locks will eventually work and the car will lock – I don’t know if this practice will damage something though. I've learned to live with it now, plenty of theories as to why this happens but no good results. I wouldn't mind if the problem went away. Cheers, Bruce. |

My money is on the tailgate actuator.
I recently had this happen to mine. They get moisture in them (design fault) and kinda seize up causing the door lock cycle. replace the actuator and all is well. |

But how do I account for this problem accuring almost always in warm weather or at least when it not raining? |

Heat. It affects mine as well on a hot day. Not for locking but unlocking, might get off my butt onday and look at it.

Anyway, it will be the actuator. |
