Well in theory its easy. But fiddly as all hell.
Getting it out you need to pop the screw covers then unscrew
The screws ontop of the cluster. Easy part over.
To get it out ower the steering wheel. Remove the door scuff
Plate then pull up the rubber door seals to halfway up the
Windshield roughly. Prise out the semi-circular panel from the side of the dash
(As seen from the doorway) then push out the twin air vents, which
Should give just enough room to fit your hand (or tool if you got
Big hands...) behind the cluster to push it out, which is a real
Bastard to get moving. Be patient and not too forceful.

Once thats out be careful not to rip it out too hard or you'll stuff
The wiring. Unplug the cluster from the wiring connector.
Now have a brew and congratulate yourself for removing your cluster.

By the way, which LEDs have you got that fit and work?
Trying to do the same with white LEDs but cant get my hands on
Any that fit.

As has been said in other threads, blue wont pass
Through orange or red.
Your best option is to remove the dails and remove the paint
By either carefully scraping or with nail polish remover.
Just be careful you replace them in the correct position and not
To firm in or they'll scrape and stick, or give wrong readings.

i have afairmont so my climate control is white and dash is white and red. if the needles are red all the way through then ur in need of new ones. series 1 needles were the ones you could clean i think. so see if anyones got needles in an old cluster on here or do what i did and buy a cuple of old clusters of ebay cheap. if you want red ones you can send them back to me and ill send you red ones instead if you want. no worries to me as long asyours are still all saleable cos ill use em in mine if not. let me know.

check your heater air con etc and find out if theyre the same size mate? i have no idea as i have fairmont with climate control.

also if it looks like theres a white strip on bottom of needles then u should be able to make them clear. use nail polish remover with acetone, thats what i use and it works best. If you need any help let me know

as long as the colour is only showing through because of the painted filter on bottom. pop one off gently with a blunt knie and have a look mate. its the only way to really tell. or get fron faceplate off and look at them through the side. if theyre red tint then you cant clean em.
