Picture showing the back of the car now with the camera in place.
Note that it's not a perfect cover-up as I expected - there are still two visible cracks around the camera. But heck, it's not the eysore that it was, so I am satisfied. What happened to that lumpy camera I showed initially you say?
Well, it's seeing duty now as the Cabin Monitor camera for the kids. But even in that role it will only have a short life. It'll be relocated soon to be the Caravan Camera and replaced with a more discrete unit and have the cables re-routed through the headlining via holes drilled in the dome lamp base and lense. I'll show the picture so you can see why, even though it is incredibly useful as it is, it's hard to live with looking to unfinished..

I ended up using an off-the-shelf dual RCA cable to route Video and Power to the boot as I had better control over the distance, it was cheaper, and easier to get (Video Monitor extender cables are 30ft or more and hard to find at many places).
So in the boot I made up a quick converter from RCA to 2.5mm Power. The benefit of this is that I can simply disconnect the Reverse Camera from inside the boot, and plug in a longer cable routed out of the car and to the back of the Caravan.

Lumpy camera on the Dome Light has now been replaced, and finally the cables routed correctly and tidied up.

Finally, I've started on the Territory. Much much smoother job this time around - except I had to route the cabling via the rubber tubing between the body and the rear door - and promptly pulled the plug off the end of the harness.
Not happy. Everything is going now except for that bit. If anyone has a small camera that uses a 4 pin mini-din connector (like s-video) to carry both power-to and composite-video-FROM the camera, I'd be very interested in knowing the pinouts of that cable..... Lukeyson |
