Wonder if someone else has had the same problem.What we thought might be a smartlock problem may not be.

My sons car would not start so thinking it might be the smartlock I replaced it with a mid series one and we still have the same problem.

The radio,wiper and fan all work on accessories but not when the ignition is switched to the on position.Could this be another problem elsewhere that I need to look.Any ideas would be appreciated .Thanks

try putting the key in the on position until the locks cycle normally you have to do it when you replace the ecu or bcm or smartlock ign switch,

so try leave the key on until the locks cycle and see what happens as thats how other members have taught their replacement ecus and bcms to work off the original keys

yeah what fairmont1 mentioned. If the ECU and BCM has been reset due to no power (ie. unplugged battery) then it will need to relearn the key configurations. Leave the key in the ignition for 30 - 45mins and your locks will cycle signifying it has completed the "training".

Good luck and hope this works out.

phong =P~

Sunday decided to investigate the rear of the ign barrel.All looked ok, nothing falling off or burnt.
Decided just to apply some light pressure to back of the ign switch where all the wires are connected and while pressing I heard the (slightest) click.Car now starts!!
Is it still worth taking it to a eleco to look at??

I don't think so, you need power to the ignition for that to happen. lol

On my EL XR8 I have to start the car and then bring the key back about 2 or 3 mm's. I thought it was key wear initially but I have a brand new (factory) key that experiences the same problem. It's no drama though, it's been like that for the 5 yrs I've owned it.
