Hey guys. I've been coming onto these forums for the past 6 months reading up about my car and potential modifications I could do. With great help from the technical documents and other people posts I have learned a great deal about my car. One modification that I really want to tackle is installing a climate control unit into my base model falcon, so I've been searching high and low on the forums for a tech doco or a post on how to do it. So far with no success!
So my question is in 3 parts:
1) Can someone link me to a tech doco?
2) Can someone list potential items needed for the change over?
3) Is it possible to do this without attacking half of the cars looms and vacume tubing?

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, gli.

Here ya go with the tech doco:

documents.php?d=8

it pretty much explains everything,

Just make sure you either source the parts, especially the vacuum control and the control unit, from the same car or at least the same model. Oh, and not explained in the doc for EF/EL is the need to the vacuum line from the control unit to the vacuum block on the heater box.

Cheers
RD

When I get home I'll slap up a complete list.

I've written several times with a list of the components required.

When the search is treating me kindly I'll bring up the useful posts.

Either way, its bets to acquire a Fairmont dash loom (around $40 from a do it yourself wreckers) It'll save you many hours of frustration. every upgrade I've assisted with has been good, besides one with a dodge loom (cut and shut)

sweet, I've been down at pinch a part many a time and there were only 2 fairmonts there, 1 completely stripped (looms and all) and the other was fairly intact (last time i was there), even had the climate control unit. That was a few weeks ago though. When it cools down (43 for the last 3 days here in melb) I'll head down and try to get as much out of it as i can!

Need too:

Remove Dash (complete).

Parts:

Climate Control Module.
Blend door motor (on heaterbox). NO need to remove heater box or degass the ac.
Solenoid Vacuum Pack. (behind stereo)
Fan Speed Regulator. (behind glovebox)
Sunload Sensor (on dash panel).
Ambient Temp Sensor (on bumper bar).
Fairmont Dash Loom.
Fairmont B.E.M
Fairmont Light switch.
Removal of resistor in Instrument Cluster

While your at it, its advisable to change the Indicator stork to a Fairmont type for the intermittent wiper feature and also the lovely key light.
Also may as well add the low coolant sensor and washer sensor while you have a Fairmont loom.

Also IF your car has ABS brakes, you won't need to run any wires in the engine bay as they'll all be there. This also gives you Cruise Control as Plug and Play. even now without the Fairmont dash loom.

All this with parts aplenty can be done in a day.

Something else i found while searching.
interior-modifications-f14/climate-control-into-ef-gli-t56808.html

It is also best to source 2 main parts from the same car CC module and the Vacuum pack.
EL and EF types have a very slight difference and a handful of people modding have struck an issue with vent controls.

This may explain why my vent controls don't work in my EF. It looks like somewhere down the line the control unit for the CC has been changed to the EL one (it has grey buttons apposed to black) I might try and source another unit and sell this one or maybe even swap! :D

My car already has cruise control and a factory installed LPG system (although the converter is ruined :( )... will this make some of my work easier?

Factory cruise doesn't necessarily mean it has a full engine bay loom.
Ford sold addon cruise loom for GLi's.

However, Having a Full loom (ABS equipped) is only a tiny advantage I mean, it'll save you running 2 wires through a hole and 5 minutes is gained. Rather than plug and play.
