Just a couple of questions? how did you frost the LEDs? and how did you change the internal resistor?

(I am a bit of a noob with electronics, but i am getting there!! :P)

I am slack, and considering using these do a blue led mod, are these suitable?

i still wanna keep my blue dash but i also wanna do this mod
will the blue light come through and still be bright enough?

oh yer
is your dash acctually brighter than wat the pic shows? coz it look like cant c bugga all

Yeah you could keep you're blue LEDs, I guess the 'red' warning areas would look funny, and any pictures you had may look funny unless you masked them off.

The dash is heaps bright IRL. My camera doesn't do it justice. The 'ticks' light up bright and clear, and red areads glow, as does the Ford logo.

sandpaper, sand the top flat, then the sides so they are 'frosted'.

Pull the things apart cut off the old resistor, solder in a new one (380Ohm) put back into holder. done.

as above, you could use any colour LED you want, just any colours you do on your print will go funny. But I guess if you're just doing something basic, the coloured highlights may work great. Wasn't something I though of in any detail.

Here's a "digitally enhanced" version getting somewhat closer to what it looks like to me (minus the blur and hotspots, you don't notice them).

I just have one question, for your low fuel, seat belt, and high engine tmep warning lights, how did you get around those, or did you just ignore them?

hey

ok i just did the above mod, without frosting... i dn't have any hot spots as such, except that the top parts of my dash are dim, and harder to see

by "frosting" them, will it make it more disperse?

Also, how exactly do you get "inside" the led, to reach the resistor, so that you can replace it?

wouldn't that involve, removing the entire plastic casing around it? is that even possible?:S

also,

my "dimmer" knob that previously worked when it had globes in it, has stopped wroking now that i have LED's in it!

Now it is either on, or off...no difference in brightness at alL!

is this a byproduct of using LED's? or is something else the probleM?

btw, my car is a toyota, but i found alot of people doing the same mods, as i tried to do to my toyota, so i hope u guys can help

The warning lights still work fine, they light up the white 'logos' for the fuel, engine temp. I just ignored the seatbelt guy one.

frosting disperses the light better and removes the hotspots. 'A Good Thingâ„¢'.

Changing the resistor (if like me you bought the NARVA premade LED globes) involved pulling the LED fron it's plastic holder, where you'll see two metal 'tabs' (these are the contacts), and the LED wired up to both via a resistor on one leg. That's what I changed to get them brighter.

The dash dimmer still works, just you won't notice it, because the LEDs are very efficient, it'd take a much bigger 'dim' to be noticable. I never used my dimmer anyway, always had it on bright with regular bulbs, and have left it there since.

ah ok so the dimmer works :p

I didn't buy narva led's , i bought monza and some other brand as well

not sure about the monza, the resistor MAY be under the holder like you said, but the other brand has the led's inside the plastic casing, so that i can't access em

I'll see what i can do with the monza's

i know frosting reduces hotspots, but will it get rid of the dimmness that's near the top part of my dials, because the lights won't reach that far? i'm assuming yes, as it disperses the light better, but i just want confirmation b4 i do it, as otherwise there is no point, coz as i said, i don't have hotspots
