Well..
I tried to be as careful as possible, but i still managed to crack the odometer LCD on the EL.
Question: Does anyone know if you can buy just the LCD from Ford? Or do they make you buy the entire cluster?

You won't get one new but there are plenty of clusters on Ebay or the wreckers.

Are you sure about that? I thought ford genuine parts would have everything?

yeh ring ford genuine parts because i would imagine that the LCD itself even if from ford would still be cheaper then a whole cluster from a wrecker

yes that may be the case but ford won't sell parts of parts. They will only sell them as a whole. ie a complete instrument cluster.

yourt better off buying a new cluster from wreckers and swapping the LCDs

You will have to buy the cluster for over $600 from ford if they are still available, you won't be able to get just the LCD.

I had the exact same issue with my Police cluster - picked up a cheap GLi unit off eBay and swapped 'em over. The same LCD is used on all EF/EL models (except Fairlane).
Just take note of which way up the white holder goes in and if changing the orange filter make sure it fits correctly. ;)

Go to one of those pick and pay less wreckers and you will get the lcd for about $1......now I do not suggest you just put it into your pocket but can't see them charging you any more than that.....no need to buy the cluster...

How the Fu@$ do you crack an lcd anyway....you not supposed to use a sledge hammer to install the cluster

Dont ask.
Most of it still works. Just a section of it got damaged whilst tightening the backing screws. I heard a creak then i thought nothing of it. hooked it all up and there it was. An LCD which had been damaged.
Oh well. Sh%@ happens. I guess its an expensive lesson. An LCD which will end up costing me $100.
Damn it...!!!!!!!!!

unless you go to ford it wont be 100 bucks. like the others have suggested, go to a pull it yourself wrecker and just tke the lcd. they dont charge you much for it.

I've never found a cluster at a wreckers.. seem to be the first thing gone. But then again i haven't been to many.

Are you sure it's actually cracked? it could be that the rubber bits became detached and arent sitting right so it doesn't display properly.

Yep. Definitely cracked. Rubber connectors are still stuck on LCD. Bit of liquid was visible. Doesnt take much to damage these.
Anyways, picked up a new cluster from the wreckers today. Cost me $75.
All good.
Rang Ford today and got quoted $700 for a new one. Quickest phone call i ever made to genuine parts. Thanks....Seeya.

People who have no clue probably actually pay that much for things like that when they take their car to get serviced or something.
