a workmate of mine has a 03 ba xt sedan and has been having trouble with the chime telling you the door is open. it comes on even when driving along with doors closed. originally only happened in wet weather. took it to ford and they said moisture was getting in the door lock. there is no replacement part. all they do to fix it is pack it with grease all around the sensor to stop moisture getting to it and shorting it out.

that seemed to work except now it is doing it again, even in the dry. the problem is, it also affects the locking mechanism. the other day he locked his car at the shop but when he came back out it was unlocked. this is not too handy. othertimes it won't lock as the sensor is playing up.

i am no help to him. even though i have a 03 futura, mine does not have this function. i have a light on the dash when i open my door but no chime. is this some sort of upgrade early in the piece.

has anyone else heard or had this issue?

I only know of a chime for the drivers seat belt not being clipped in. Never heard of a door chime.

According to the owners manual the tone will sound if the the ignition is turned on with a door open and again if the car is detected as moving. Tone is 3 rising beeps.

Scary.

The Door Ajar Sensor is connected directly to the BEM. So the problem will be with the sensor, the loom, or the BEM itself.

The tests to find out which is which actually require a WDS tool and a Multimeter. I've long been on a mission to get a cheap ELM327 tool to set and read Ford PIDS, but at this stage I am still only able to read DTC's and Common PIDS.

The Ford WDS tool however will let you read the BEM to see the status of the Door Ajar Sensors (PIDS are RF_AJAR, RR_AJAR, LR_AJAR and LF_AJAR). If the lines into the BEM indicate that the doors change state correctly when you open and shut doors, then those PIDS should reflact the changes, and it may actually be a problem with the BEM. If they don't change state correctly, then it's the loom (Dash Loom OR Door Loom) or lock sensor.

One thing to check is the chime timing:

400ms on, 300ms pause, 3 beeps - Door Ajar
500ms on, 1 second off - continuous - parkbrake
300ms on, 100ms pause, 5 beeps ay 30sec intervals - high temp
300ms on, 100ms pause, 4 beeps after 5 sec - low oil
300ms on, 100ms pause, 3 beeps at 1sec intervals - low fuel
300ms on, 200ms pause, 3 beeps at 2sec intervals - Park Lights on
5ms click on/off - indicator and hazard.
300ms per frequency, 3 tones - Overspeed
500ms on, 200ms off @ 5Hz - Airbag
250ms on, 750ms between beeps, 6 beeps at 30s intervals - seatbelt

Aside from spinning out that the indicator sound is computer generated, make sure it's generating the first one.

One thing you might want to check is that the door with the fault is getting correct earth.

If there's a problem with the lock itself, the system might have registered a DTC. B1300 for instance points to a failure of the door lock feedback loop.

I can't understand why there'd be no 'replacement'. Seems silly to me. Talk to FTG Auto Spares and get them to source a 2nd hand unit.
