hey everyoen

couldnt find a part of the forum that really matched up to what im posting but i guess this is the closest :)

this is for a EL falcon, GLi

basically, my exterior door handle things its the interior door handle, when you lock the door by pressing the button down, then shut the door, then try to open the door from the outside it will unlock.

ill try and make a long story short, i had to take off the interior door skin to weld the window guide back onto the door frame as it has rusted off, then same time to put the door skin back on so i got everything back on and all was well - until it came time to put the square door popper on. i just thought it would be a matter of pushing it down the thread, so i tried that - and i pushed alittle too hard and heard a snap. from there on the door was VERY easily lockable and unlockable, and unlockable by pulling the exterior handle up.

i thought that i had just broken the actuator, so after getting a new one i installed it last night but i still have the exact problem (unlocking with the exterior door handle, trying to lock the door with the key dosnt do anything etc) so is there some sort of stopper or mechanical arm that could have been snapped? any help would be great. pretty fed up

I am guessing you are talking about the drivers door.
If so then you may have snapped the little red rod that helps to lock the door, it sounds like the door is not actually locking.
Try taking the door trim(skin) off and locking it manually. This should work, hopefully. I snapped the plastic rod on mine and have replaced it with a metal rod that comes with the jaycar central locking kit.

try it with out the squar lock knob on and see if it work ok, you might be fitting the knob to far down the rod so that the door can not lock properly, when you go to fit the knob, first use a small screwdriver to prise the white inside section out 10 - 13 mm lock the door, then put the knob on over the rod push down all the way you should hear a click as the white section is pushed back inside the knob by the bottom of the knob guide in the droor trim.
