Hi,

I am swapping in some metal door handles, 2 have cracks in the plastic at the bottom near the pin. Am I safer using super-glue or do they come apart without damage pressing the pin out ? This would be my preferred option, has anyone done this with success, or did they break ?

Regards 96ELGli

You can press the pin out and refit the metal handle into the working base plate

as uniacidz said, theres a pin and you need to lightly tap with a punch and a hammer, they will come out. i bought some cappa door handles with the chrome bits and swapped the chrome into my grey ones, just go easy with the hammer and you will be fine

Hi,

Thanks for the reply Guys, I didnt want to break the good parts I have. Sometimes plastic goes very brittle with age so I thought I would ask. I figured someone would have found out.

Thanks, 96ELGli

If your patient you can just used a small phillips head screw driver and wd40 to push the pins out. I just did it and it took a little time but I felt I had a little more control of the force being applied

i used a small phillips head screw driver and pushed down on the handle on a bench top to get mine out, worked well and came out smoothly, just take note of what way the spring comes out.
