Hey guys, purchased (EL) wiper stalk with intermittent wipe variable speed to fit in EL gli,was told it was plug and play(but noticed the speed was never working). Only now that i have read you need to upgrade the low series BEM for the wiper speed to function.

Is there step by step guide out there to do this mod, iv read through countless threads but theres no clear one stating what wires you have to connect/splice into and connect to the new BEM.

Just wondering if theres anyone out there whos upgrading this in there EL gli

Thanks

I upgraded my EF GLi BEM to a Fairmont/Fairlane BEM. From memory, I had to upgrade the dash loom to a fairmont/fairlane one. It didn't matter to me seeing as I put in electric windows and did a Climate Control conversion at the same time.

Did it all without incident and without the aid of any manuals etc (I have the mechanical competency of a retarded baboon) so If I can do it I'm sure you can :P

oh ok good job in getting that done!, i wont be installing the climate control or electric windows.

In regards to the loom i cant see it going straight to the BEM anyway in turns to the right hand side of the steering wheel as you look at it, BEM is on the left.

thanks for info

from memory you have to add a wire from the bcm to the wiper motor. there is a guide but not sure if its on this site or another ford forum. im yet to add the wire but i have changed the bcm.

Been looking for 2days on forums found nothing as of yet.............

Would be great if theres a tech doc out there, if we could source one.

The tech doc doesn't actually specify how to add this feature. It does however give you the pinout location (Pinout 10 on the lower connector for the EF, but I'm pretty sure it's different for the EL) for the wiring. And it also mentions cutting the wiring from the stalk and running one from the BEM to the washer pump to give it full control over the wash feature. One day I will find the motivation to finish this mod on mine.

From the Tech Doc
Quote:
The Next Mod you will want to make is adding a Variable Intermittent Wiper Stalk, and adding a wire from this, to the BEM (Pinout 10 on the LOWER connector).
At present, I have not tried this modification, therefore I am not 100% sure of the best procedure to go about adding the required wire.
Therefore, I am not sure if the wire already exists (Most Probably doesn’t), and if there are any shortcuts that can be taken in adding it.
If you are interested in carrying out this mod, then please let me know, and I will investigate this step further.

The Next Mod you will need to make is cutting the wire going to the Front Washer Motor(From the wiper stalk), and adding a new Wire going to from the BEM
(From pinout 10 on the UPPER connector), to the Washer Motor.
This Mod will then remove the control of the washer pump, away from the Wiper/Washer stalk, and allow to the BEM Module to have complete control of this feature.
Basically, when this mod is completed, you will then be able to simply flick the Wiper/Washer stalk, and the Washer pump will operate for a period of 4 seconds.
A somewhat useless feature, but an added feature nonetheless.
