@93EB

I successfully removed the switch without damage, I used a jewellers flat blade screwdriver to disengage the wire connector. Installed switch onto what I thought was a better door trim (sourced from a wreck) only to find the top part of the door trim did want to sit true and snug at the top. No matter how many times I tapped the locators for that trim to snap into position.

I ended up refitting the old trim.

At least I now can say I can remove and reinstall that power mirror switch.

Once again, thanks to the people who gave me advice.

Cheers

then you probly didn't get the trim piece that locks onto the window frame section sitting properly ... & there are no locaters for that [other than inbetween the frame work of the door glass]. apply the door trim at an angle [with bottom away from door] so it 'clips/slips onto the frame next to the door glass, lightly slap/push it down till it sits firm. then fit door trim via locators & screws/bolts.

Mad2,

I double checked the door trim and they look the same. I'll take the old one off tomorrow and see how it goes again at and angle. The door trim came off an AUIII , mine is an AUII, should not make any difference.

yeah should not make any difference .... I put AU1 into an AU2 no worries. just had to make sure I clipped the top part in properly.

I found out why the door trim would not sit properly, unknown to me , there was broken piece of plastic with metal clip already occupying a slot in the door itself, bugger was hidden from view due to foam.

Removed the offending item, now other trim sits perfectly.

Driver's side door now solid as it should be, all systems are go.

Thanks to everyone's contribution on this topic.
