hey guys,
i have just replaced most of my interior with LED's - the dome, the two back lights and the map are all done! may i say they look great, i noticed the map lights are VERY bright in comparison to the normal globes. highly recommend this mod. i have a question though. i want to change the boot light to LED and same with the Glove box, i have seen a few guys have done this. Just wondering what size LED/what sort of LED i would need for these two jobs? thanks guys!! :d |

Should just take in the old globes mate, to an led lighting joint. Might be able to help you then and there. Good luck.

The glove box is a reverse polarity BA9S Globe,

You'll also have the make sure that the glove box globe doesn't flange at the end, because you won't be able to fit it inside the actual bracket.

Regarding the boot light, I wouldn't bother just fitting a replacement globe in LED form. Spend a little extra and buy an SMD LED strip and fit that - lights up the boot area much better. You can get decent one's from Jaycar for about $30 or so.
Just remove the old boot light, follow the wires back to where they are connected to the bulb holder, cut the wires, strip the ends back and crimp/solder them up with the wiring connector supplied with the LED strip. To hold the LED strip in place, I just used some velcro circles and it works perfectly.

ebay some smd led strips,flexible, various lengths and waterproof to an extent, i have them in footwells, under the doors, in the boot and they are all great.

yeah fairly bright, smd's so the light spread is good too. lights up the ground well at night when i open the door, and they're a bright white, close to blue.

cool well for that price you cant go wrong.at most shops like jcar they charge top dollar for em.thinking of ptting some thing similar in the engine bay but i think the heat might melt it.maybe when the turbo goes in to shed some light on it.

I bought a 5M roll of ebay... You just cut to length...
   all in my build thread which is linked in my sig... page 20 for these pics... sure is... 14 a meter... get a roll and sell some to your mates for a profit...
You can cut it at intervals of 3 Leds accross the gold contacts you can see through the gel... Which is roughly every 5 cm... Then I used a soldering iron to melt the rubber gel stuff off the contacts and clean it up... There is 4 contacts... You hook +12V to the +12V contact... And then the R, G & B contacts you just short them all together and hook it to ground... Bit of heatshrink and your away... They're waterproof too apparently... I haven't used them outside of the car yet... Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim hahaha sweet as.ill be getting some.i walked up to an asian bloke one day at northland shoping center it was one of those little shops in the middle and he wanted to charge me $25 for 20cm so this is a bloody bargain.and will defs make my cash back on this.cant really charge mates though.lol (some mates)
