Hi Guys, after fitting a sports dash to my DC LTD I noticed that the oil guage is only reading between 0 and the first bar and I have fitted a new and correct sender unit to the engine but still no change  can anybody suggest what could possibly be a fix or what the fault is...

What grade oil are you using?
Do you have another sports dash to try?
Did you use a long barreled Ford sender or an after market one?
Before going on to what may be wrong you'll have first ascertain if the reading your getting is accurate.
If you haven't access to another sports dash equipped car for swapping and comparing, you may have to get the oil pressure checked by an analogue gauge screwed into the block. [self or mechanic]
If you have access to a working 'S' cluster, the simplest method is to swap your sports clusters around and compare readings.
You may also want to spray the loom plugs at the rear of the cluster with electrical connection cleaner, same with the sender unit, as a dirty contact can distort the signal.
If you get an analogue reading the pressure at 2000rpm, when hot, should be at least 40psi [280kpa] and the pump is rated at 50psi [340kpa].
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul but I have tried most of what you have suggested and still no change, the oil is Shell Helix in the green bottle, and the sender unit is a original ford item (I think)...
So what grade of oil would you recomend for the 5ltr, I have always used the helix since I bought the car around 5 years ago but never had the sports dash and when I had my TD cortina the 250 had a fairly high oil pressure reading and maybe I just assumed that the LTD would be the same...

Kermit,
I do believe that the reading is way too low, so maybe the analogue gauge or the cluster swap are the only options left to determine the actual oil pressure @ 2Krpm.
AFAIK the Helix @ 15w40 or even a 20w50 should be fine but I'll leave it to the V8 boys to comment further on that.
Perhaps a post in the 'V8 forum' may produce results?
Cheers,
Paul
