My air bag is over ten years old, but until I get a recall notice from Ford I'm not authorised to remove it, and with all due respect nlbxr6 I don't think you would be either.

Your dash looks good - the outside of the steering wheel matches nicely, but for safety's sake put the air bag back on!

BINGO! I just got in touch with a VicRoads officer today whilst getting the NF registered, and any cars manufactured the year 1995 and beyond, must comply with ADR92 standards - basically any items designed for vehicle safety must comply with those standards.

The wheel is considered to be illegal and if caught by police on an inspection will be rendered a defective vehicle. Do the right thing........
I have mated who own EF Falcons and have had no problems with their airbags.

being a panel beater and having to remove & refit these things regularly probably makes a bit of a difference.I dont think you will get a recall from ford but the air bag tech i use to fit all the modules and clear codes was telling me about the life span of older bags with new technology things are a bit different now in the states at the moment there are big s**t fights over on off switches for bags and they are trying to introduce 'smart' sensors that detect different weights and deploy bags with different forces ie kids in front the idea for the switch is for people with back problems people who have heart conditions etc
I have been told by many a person I dont have a heart so I might fit in the last class {ha ha}
I know the wheel is probably not legal but until I can find a good replacement with a bag it will do I am not paying 1000 for a new bag and another 500 for a new wheel as the xr has a different bag to the stocko I have been told by ford

I just used septone alluminium engine enamel {can get it from super cheap}and septone enamel clear coat just make sure you use a good quality plastic primer and anti static cleaner before hand and give it light coats to get the metalic to stand out also that way if there is any old silicone {armorall} it wont give you fish eyes in the paint. If you do get any let it dry give it a rub with some 400 and a few more light coats if you are thinking about doing it and need any advise go to the exterior mods and ask me

I like what you have done rockford matches nicely cant wait to get my red seats I have been thinking about doing the rest of the dash the lighter grey like the hoodlining etc when I get bored next

Same airbag, different colour cover. XR had black, the rest got grey or cappucino iirc.

Awesome job :D . Looks really cool...the best colour I've seen so far.

Didn't realise my air bag only lasted 10 years....interesting :shock:
Nothing like an unexpected bang!

Wheel looks hot...i'd just pay the fine.....just don't hit anything while you are driving....that's where the airbag might come in handy. :roll:
