is it normal for the trip comp to only light up only when you turn the lights on. On the right side where the writing is. or should it light up like the left side as soon as you have the egnition on

yeah the LCD lights up when the cars on and dimms when the lights are on the right hand side turns on when the headlights are on .

Hang on, do you mean the digit display or hte writing on the side?
The digits should come on when the car does. |

Ok. The writing (trip specs) and the buttons will NOT light up unless the lights are on. The Digit display should light up when the car is put in to II (ON position). If the digit display is always dimm and i mean dimm so you cant see ir, even if the car lights are on then u need to replace the globes.
