Got some more work done today. Welded the pan from the EL straight over the top of the cross member of the EB. Adds some extra support in this area, and gives me my mounts for the seat and handbrake and better still no steel has been unstitched or removed in this process. Have been able to get the gap between the two dash halves to about 20 mm but have to work out how to amalgamate the two sections where it gets close to the stereo. Am also going to have to make a fascia plate for the stereo area but this isnt top priority at the moment. Top priority is making sure everything stays true and straight. Theres a bit of a gap at the side of the das where it meets the A pillar but its only about 15 mm from where it should be. The door mould weather strip bit covers this nicely. If this all works out its gunna look hell mean.
Does anyone know if the diff endplates from the early e series can be swapped for the late e series ones? I need to adapt them for the EL rear brakes and handbrake.

So anyway, under the carpet is a welded in pan. The bottom section of the console is screwed and mounted.

Ya cant see much, but it all sort of fits. the big bit will be making at all hold together without the race tape.

Slow progress today, had to go up to Kuranda to keep the missus happy. Bit of fettling has got the gap between the two sections to around 10mm. Have opted to use MDF (its much easier to sand and glue...) as the material to go in between. Will paint it up to look like the silver devider in a B series. So far Ive only spent 35 bux on mdf, sandpaper and glue, and a few odds n sods.
This is a pretty easy mod to do if you have some time to pull things apart about 45 million times.

I read recently on this forum that some idiot thinks this is an easy mod. Its a pain in the a***.

Today Ive been piss f@rt about with one bit of MDF for about 4 hours, sanding, cutting, checking, sanding, checking....

Sort of rough shape.

In place in car, just being held in so you get the rough idea.

Again just held in place.

This one shows the gaps that need to be filled. Havent decided yet if Im going to cover in vinyl or paint them yet. One step at a time.

WTF are you doing? why not swap the whole dash over, not just the bottom half?
should be a heap easier than what you're doing - while you're at it do you feel like re-inventing the wheel? :P

i say good on you for having a go dazza and if its not costing you anything its a learning experience but i do think from the looks of it the whole dash swap over would have been easier.

cheers
