anyone know how to "turn" back a speedo.
Its mechanical. Rebulit car, motor and electrics; total rebuild and would like to start from a new milage Anyhelp would be much appreciated. |

i would think so in funtimes case. because its the engine thats new but all the suspension etc etc still has that amount of kays on it. i wound back mine on my EB2 only cause i got a mid series cluster and put the same miliage on thats was on the speedo that came out (low series cluster) if that makes sense

No its because the only thing that is "old is the body.......the car has been totally rebuilt ground up.............
But I do understand the legalities and NO I am not doing to "shaft" anyone |

so it would still be illegal to put a brand new one in the car that is digital and reads 0ks ???

Yes. Its illegal no matter what. Your supposed to take the "new" cluster in to main roads or whatever and have them set it to the kays that were on the "old" cluster.

it don't matter, my old ed had 220'000km on it when I got it, I replaced the cluster with one that had 180'000km because it had issues, then when I fitted the low km au engine I would it back to 100,000km to what the replacement engine had.. so the kms had changed 3 times in 4 years and no concerns from rta..
the latest one was my au, I contacted the nsw rta because i had some enquiries about the kms on my speedo, and they said its no concern to them, the privacy act prevents them from looking up the km on my car and if I think there was deception when purchasing the car in regards to km I should contact fair trading.. I contacted fair trading and there response was what year is the car> I said 2001. they said unless the car was less than 10 years old there is nothing they will do, unless there is suspicion a dealer or re seller is changing kms to gain a profit from false kms on the cars.. so at the end of the day, if its a old car do what you like because no one in the government departments gives a s**t.. |

If you want zero Klms on your odometer, the legal way to do it is to replace the old "faulty" speedo with a unit that has zero on it and have a declaration in the vehicle stating same. |

Might as well "service" the old unit, replace the 2 gears that brake and give the electronics a clean with contact cleaner, reset the numbers...... Refurbished unit!
