I have managed to get a hold of a trip computer for the EL and i was wondering how anyone who has done the mod went about doing it.
The car is a 1997 EL Futura and the wiring harness behind the dash is a clock one... Any ideas on how to do it would be appreciated.... And there is a possibility that i might be able to get a harness to suit it... Cheers David

I pretty much followed the doco: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=32 . There aren't any factory add on looms, but what I did was get the clock and instrument cluster plugs from the wreckers, and used the pins and loom cuttings, and just soldered in the remaining wiring needed, which isn't much.

I have read (and printed) the doco and i was just wondering how it was done by other people.
Stuff like where did you get the Park Lamps Signal, Park Lamps Dimmer Signal etc. Is there anywhere else you can wire up the data line ... ie the BEM? To tell you the truth i was hoping that there was a factory add on loom

Nope has to run to the cluster. Thats where all the informatin comes from that is displays on the trip computer. |

If the doco confuses you a bit i suggest do this.
Get a pen or pencil and a sheet of paper and draw out the plug and put pointer lines with numbers/text to where things go underneath eg, Pin 1 to Right_Hand Side Cluster Plug Pin 14. Pin 7 of the clock/trip plug to dark blue/red line of the demister button Pin 6 of the clock/trip plug to brown of the demister button. Makes things easier if you get yourself confused, write it out in your own words helping yourself out a bit. |

what if u dont have a wire in pin 14
i have an 98EL Futura saphire edition and i removed the right hand plug and there was no blueish wire in the plug where pin 14 is because there is no pin 14 wire at all is the anywhere else i can get this data line from i really need help |

Pin 14 is the ony place you can get the trip computer data from, and there are no shortcuts or any other methods to get the trip computer work, except the method outlined in the doco. There are a couple of ways to ADD this wire to the Trip Computer Plug, and the Cluster plug. 1) BEST WAY - Obtain 2 Header pins from identical plugs from a wrecked falcon, and use these on the plug. 2) BODGY - Strip the end of a wire, and shove it in to the plug(s), then use some cheap and nasty glue to hold the wire in place.... Anyways, read the doco completely and carefully, you will find that ALL the information you need is in there !

It's held secure ever since. tinning - adding solder to bare wire to 'harden' it.

when i done this for my EF i just got the wrecker to chuck in the connector plug from some s**t heap he had and pulled out the wires, with some difficulty, and plugged them into the cluster plug. I found the trick with doing this is using a bull-nose pair of pliers along the lenght of the wire, but wrap the plier end is some material so u dont sever the wire within.
If ur gonna do this mod i stongly suggest that u also connect up the other feature such as coolant indiactor, wiper fluid and fog lamp....so you wont have to do this again later i took all the lighting from the dimester switch as it was the closest and easiest, just use a coupler!! i hope this helped, but just follow the doco if in doubt |

Also, I have fairmont ghia ive decided to use as a donor car... Any instructions on how to just transfer across? Thanks...
