Just wondering if anyone has run a draw through turbo setup, with LPG. I am considering this to keep costs down on turboing my car. Any advice on these setups would be appreciated. And if anyone knows if there is a kit to fit an AU I6.

what kind of lpg system is it and will you be intercooling?
if you plan on intercooling then i'd advise against it since it will fill the entire intake system with quite a combustible mixture of fuel - could cause a big bang should it backfire.
a short pipe from turbo straight to throttle body would be less potentially destructive but intake temps would be through the roof.
I did an intercooled blow through set up which worked well, there should be a few build threads in here too you could pinch some ideas off if you have a poke around. and then you can document yours and let us have a perv :D

thanks man, yer i knew that draw through systems should not be intercooled, if i set up a blow through is it just as str8 forward on gas as is on petrol, cos im just scared im blow the engine or something cosidering it is my onli car. Do u know anybody on here that haas a an lpg turbo build thread up?? Just need to find out the difference and maybe i will build my own kit.

i dont see the point in draw through turbo setups, mixing gas/fuel into the air before it hits a creaming hot turbo isnt smart in my eyes. if your going to fork out a few grand for a turbo setup then you might aswell pay a bit extra and go the gas research throttle body.

also you cant use a BOV on a draw through setup running all the air sensors that ford use, as its designed to know how much air is in the intake, if you move the TB to the other side of the turbo, when you back off there is going to be raw fuel and pressurized air sitting in the intake pipe that the ECU thinks has gone through the motor, either resulting in a very lean mixture or an explosion of the intake pipe if it ignites any fuel left in the pipe

if anyone knows better feel free to correct me, but i dont a bit of research when i used to own a VK and i was going to supercharge it. ended up being pointless

i wouldn't bother doing draw through.

i also wouldn't bother going non-intercooled.

do you have a gas system already in the car or you will be starting from scratch? what is your budget and how much power are you chasing? i used an impco mixer because its very simple to set up and doesn't require tuning since its self metering (works kind of like a carby - the more air that passes through the mixer the more gas is drawn in).
other options i know of is the standard ford vialle system that uses a stepper motor or a gas research throttle body - both options i considered before deciding on the impco because it was the simplest IMO. if you do a search on all of these you should come up with a fair bit of information since there are quite a few people running around with turbo lpg set ups.

i just have factory fitted LPG. Would it be best changing to an aftermarket system before boosting????

is it the vialle system with the converter bolted to the drivers side next to the exhaust manifold and the mixer ring in the plastic intake just infront of the throttle body? a photo could assist us in determining what system it is if you're not sure.
if its the system im thinking of then yes you can turbo it without having to change much.
do you have a rough idea of how much power you want or you just want to turbo it and see what you get? what is your budget!

im expecting to spend bout $1500-$2000; hopefully picking up the parts from here and there and building a kit.
Im just thinking of boosting the car to get at leats more than 220Kw(not have to be atw).
It would be nice if it was quicker than my mates V8 statesman which is 100% stock.

Yes and the converter is on the drivers side next to the exhaust manifold, and im pretty sure the mixer ring is just infront of the TB.

I'm building a draw thru LPG turbo setup for my torana. Basically because i already had a draw thru petrol turbo setup, and it was way too thirsty with the 45DCOE Weber carby. I'm running a custom cnc machined adapter & a gas research S440 carby.

Have not had it running on LPG yet, but it should run smoother & not have the fuel puddling issues like it did on petrol when at low engine speeds. A few people have said not to bother, but it isn't much effort to swap the petrol gear for LPG. Sure, blow thru would be better. But it will require custom intake & exhaust manifolds, and lots of other fabrication. Maybe I'll do that one day, but to start with I'll get it running draw thru so i can drive the car & enjoy it a bit.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

Ok so ive been doing some more research and i have found these kits in the US. They seem to be a universal kit because when i go through the ebay store i notice that most of the kits are the same, and dont include a manifold which you have to get seperately for your specific car. So im seriously considering one of these kits as they are dead cheap. (prices are in USD). Just wondering if someone on here is able to have a look at these kits and make sure im not wasting my money. Ive also seen some manifolds appear on ebay from time to time. It looks very similar to the snort kits.

To be honest i wouldn't bother with one of those cheap kits. Snort have kits to suit falcons for around $3k with the manifold, a good turbo (not cheap & probably crap) along with other bits that are designed to fit the falcon 6cyl & known to work reliably.

A while ago i inquired what a turbo, log manifold & dump pipe would be worth - i think it was somewhere around $1500. With a couple of other bits you need, you might be able to have one for around $2k.

Cheers

if you have a chat to geoff from snort who is on here, you can kindly ask him what second hand kits he currently has, and if he has none then just ask him to keep you informed. he has done that for me but i let him know not to worry yet as i have other things on my things to do list first

i agree with toranaguy, the cheap turbos are pretty unreliable from my experience. Having said that, I've had two T70s that were excellent and never missed a beat even after having a consistent 17 odd psi and copping a flogging but also seen a few elcheapo T28's and t3/4's let go after not long at all, one after only 3 days on 7 psi.
For the price of buying a crappy turbo and having to replace it with another crappy turbo, you could buy a half decent second hand one - probably from here.
