Taking that figure, if we say the average installation after rebate costs $1000, it takes around 2300L of (adjusted) fuel consumed to pay for the installation, being around 34 falcon tankfuls. About a year for many.

i just had my EB converted cost me $2600 with the $2000 rebate i out of pocket $600 i did a trip today that normally cost $35 in petrol cost $14.03 in gas and car runs exactly the same i actually kept checking i had it running on gas it was running so good

I have a 4 cyl magna on gas and she costs me about 60 dollars a month to run me and the missus to work and do shopping runs. Its the best money I ever spent
 my new xr8 is on gas too so well have to see how that goes..... I dont think I would convert a car to gas tho its much easier and more ecconomical to buy a car with gas already installed.....

Well I used the calculator, I averaged it on 15L of petrol per 100k's which is about what I get.
Petrol price 155.9 Gas price 66.9 $23.39 to do 100k's on petrol $13.05 to do 100k's on gas Been on gas for 18 months now, after the $2000 rebate I was $200 out of pocket, I think I have more than made up for that by now with savings of almost $2k since I had it done.

Thats what the Spreadsheet is for. To help you decide if its worth your while, and what is a quick payoff for some, is not enough to make the switch to others. Its all about your own PERSONAL decision

installed gas to 2004 ba xr6 11/07, very good experience so far, dealer install needed some fine tuning after 3 months, much better since, had 2 coils replaced $300 almost straight away as gas put 130,000km coils under pressure, and others will probably go within 20-30k, got investment back in 7 months now running at approx 45% of old cost, based on mix of hwy and city running, local gas cost 64c, petrol now $1.65, using about 14 litres per 10km, or 10c per km, fuel cost would now be $22c per km, I would say only worth exercise if travelling minimum of 30,000km per annum, also replaced 130,00km spark plugs, and one gas installer suggested opening standard plug gap by extra 2 mm, car running very well, good acceleration, suggest that for normal driving BA will convert very well, yes run on petrol to keep everyting working, but does start from cold and run on petrol for about 1 km anyway, installed Parnell system, sg. :roll:

Now I'm about to buy a 2001 AU wagon, that for a change will be registered (at first) for private use (existing car for business use, no govt rebate allowed), I'm still trying to make up my mind.
What I don't understand is that 'km before money saving kicks in' field. Based on 15000km yr: Cash saved per yr - $1602 Adjusted price of installation (out of my pocket after rebate)- $1000 Time to offset installation cost - 0.6 yrs. that all makes sense, but if it takes .6 years to offset my out of pocket costs, then why are the 'klm before money savings kick in' at 28090, which is nearly 2 years driving. I would have thought I would be saving money the first time I fill up after that 0.6yrs that its taken to offset the installation cost. I know its after midnight so maybe I need sleep, but what am I missing? |

the KMs haven't been updated to account for the rebate I think.... originally there was no rebate, and the spreadsheet dates from this time. I added in the money calc for the rebate much later, but must have forgotten about the kms.
' If I have spare time any time soon I'll review it and see if I can fix this up without making a circular formula. If you remove the rebate value, iut will look more correct I think! Sorry about that |

 Thanks for the info. Got good reports from Rebel Ford Service Department about the system. Only one complaint and that was a manufacturing fault. One guy went from Adelaide to Queensland and back and no problems. Before the conversion, fuel was costing him more than what it cost for his 2 week vacation.
