fast easy way is to purge the tank with exhaust gas for 15mins before cutting.
I just use an old radiator hose in the tail pipe of my patrol with the other end in the filler of the tank.
Do any cutting/welding while the tank is still full of exhaust. There wont be enough oxygen in there to burn at all.

thats actually an awesome soloution to the boom problem!, just gotta remember to do it outside or with the roller door up right?
