Hi all,

Looking at buying a BA falcon wagon, and then getting it converted to LPG.

Which system and which year BA would you recommend?

I`m in Perth WA btw so any suggestions on where to buy would be appreciated.

So far I`ve had this info:

Just got off the phone to a JTG installer. Very interesting.
- He wouldn't go JTG liquid injection, as they are more expensive (not just the install, but also the maintenance eg replacing parts at the 40,000km service), and not much difference in fuel economy. He also said there have been problems with the system in very hot weather.
- He said the best system atm is the EMER system. costs $4800 to install and then get $1750 rebate from the govt. Been getting rave reviews on the Ford forum.
- He said the tank goes underneath (knew that) and that the spare tyre stands up straight in the rear on the right (didn't know that).
- The BA Falcon just goes and goes. He's seen taxi's with over a million km's on the clock. Bloody hell. 1,000,000 km's!!

LPG is more of a minefield than I thought. Talked to another mob who are Gaspower Australia approved. He said:
- $4,750 for Tartarinin injection (vapour)
- $4,550 for Orbital injection (liquid). He used to do JTG but the Oribital is better.
- $3,750 for Emission Approved System (vapour) for older BA's (02 – 04).

yeah it's hard man, every lpg guy you talk to tells you something else, i have stuck with MED at Villawood (+61 2 9726 3000)(sales@medauto.com.au) for the gas on several of my cars except my ol' ZL 250efi which they said was not a good engine for gas due to vacuum issues. So find someone you know /trust or talk to my guys - good luck!

Speak to your Local Ford dealer........

Nobody knows your Ford like we do.....(corny I know but true)

We had Gas put on our BA series 1 Station Wagon after the new car warranty ran out, but we had it done by the Ford dealer we purchased the car new from.

They serviced the Gas system as well as the car every 15000 ks, never had a problem, it never missed a beat, we travelled all over Australia in it, never had a problem.

The only reason we traded her in for a Falcon GT was because we are well off in life, and Grand Touring Australia in a GT running on unleaded, does not present the same financial problem to us that it does to others.

Its a Ford....speak to your local Ford dealer.

Cheers

Completely disagree.

Ford dealers usually have absolutely zero experience with any LPG system apart from the E-GAS.

Besides, most dealers will hand your car over to a third-party conversion shop anyway, so you may as well go to them in the first place.

Gaspower Australia do good work and the orbital system is very good and that system will come standard in the knew LPG falcons coming soon.

Send blownba a pm as he is the man for lpg and he may have a mate in ur state that can do a install for u.

My choices are JTG & eurogas and Tartarinin depending on vehicle

Isnt Ford suppossed to be building direct injection LPG engines at Geelong from 2010 ?

New powertrains for Falcon and Territory include:

* An Eco-Boost two-litre, four-cylinder engine in 2010 that will deliver a 20 per cent fuel economy improvement and cut 15 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions.

* A liquid direct injected LPG inline-six cylinder engine, delivering improved fuel efficiency to the existing egas option; and

* A 2.7-litre V6 clean diesel engine for Territory, which will deliver fuel economy improvements and cut 25 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions

Not when the base petrol engine uses indirect injection!

Don't bother with an older mixer system in a BA, get injection, and if you can find the coin, go for liquid injection.

The old mixer systems are dying out, and the fuel economy delivered by injection systems is better than the mixer systems, i have vapor injection in my EB, installed over 5 years ago & many kms on it, really good economy, depending on my driving i can get it very close to petrol economy, real world driving & filling the car up showing roughly 10% difference in economy, and a huge difference in $$$$.

Cheers

I got an injection system on the BA, installer said it would use around 10% more, but in my experience it’s using roughly about 30% more. Around 11.5lts on petrol and anywhere between 15-16ltrs on gas. Driving 70% around town 30% open roads/freeway. 10% in my experience would be very hard to achieve, what system you running btw??

Cheers

I'm running Easyjet. Sounds like your system is either running rich or you have a very heavy right boot. Mine was using about 30% more gas when the installer was tuning it, but with an o2 meter on the car i found it was pretty rich & have leaned it out myself, as i have the tune interface & software. It's still a tad rich, but nowhere as bad as the installer was tuning it. Mileage has improved a lot.

Cheers
