Well maybe he did drive it like a bastard.
Doesn't the NT still have the only open speed limits in the nation? I'm pretty sure when they held the Cannonball Run in Australia some years ago, they chose the unlimited speed roads up in the NT to speed on, so maybe Barrett did get a chance to drive like a mad C*** and just chose not to mention that publicly to avoid any form of negative publicity.

Dont matter whether he drove at 100km/h or 250km/h.. Driving on nice flat roads to rack up km doesn't damage nor test the car.

Needs some suburban corners, bumps, pot holes and traffic light drags to really test them. Then they can see how good their bushes, driveshafts, diffs, engine mounts and wheels are.

I was hoping there wouldn't be a need for a bonnet bulge with the new V8. I thought it was a smaller lighter engine?

They would leave the bonnet bulge on the test cars so they blend in and don't attract attention.

If the bulge isn't necessary on the new model it will most likely be discontinued as it will save on tooling costs.

I hate marketing like this. Unless they show the goods it's a waste of time as they are just trying to create media hype.

the supercharger on top may/may not require the bulge (not sure, just a point to consider). Personally I like the bulge, especially when you see the bombadores with copies of it. Piss off the racoon eyes before the bonnet bulge.

Are you kidding, if they did that on suburban roads it'll fall apart and risk the possibility of being seen hitching a ride on a flatbed back home to HQ.
Besides, it'll reveal the short lived engineered life span of the parts in question. they C*** afford those sort of testing in these days with internet forums, digital cameras and camera phones.

Yeah... But I woulda thought seeing 2 pre production vehicles on tray trucks would be better than seeing 500 angry customers cars on flat beds on their way to dealers.

Obviously I have my thinking wrong... My bad, FPV.

I dont bag the the cars, they are awesome... I bag the lack of time, effort and engineering that go into them these days.

And it seems to be an epidemic in the current auto industry as a whole.

I read into that article from FPV is that all they have done is 30,000km of basic road testing to see if the car holds together and is capable of being delivered to the public. 10 years ago that would have been at least 10 times that distance and they would have really treated it like s**t to see if it holds together.

Take a new FPV... Even an $80k F6-E. It uses the same bushes as an XT Falcon, same tailshaft, same diff, same half shafts and same springs as an XR6T... And when they released it the front brakes caused a harmonic shudder through the car so bad it was enough to rattle your teeth out, that they are only just fixing. Problem was bad bush and upper control arm design (XT Falcon parts, and I call s**t that FPV never knew about prior to releasing the cars like they claim) to suit the brakes. Obviously these parts arent upto the task in a car like an FPV.

Kind of remincent of the dying clutchs all Typhoons suffered when they were first released.

I have read scores of pages about dying ute tailshafts that were picked up during testing, but Ford pretended didn't exist and still released the car with a mod to engine output to hopefully avoid the problem... But it didn't.

10 years ago they would all be Tickford/FPV specific items that would actually last a decent amount of time, and all these issues and teething problems would be sorted before the car hit the market.

When you have one of these cars and have the problems I have had and some of the problems others have had, you start to question your loyalty.

I know of a dead set Holden/HSV only driver tell HSV to take his 6 month old VE Senator and shove it so far up their asses it will never be seen again. That he hopes to God they treated their other customers better, and given the chance he will tell anyone that will listen never to buy a HSV again. So he sold it at a great loss and bought a G6ET.
