Anyone know what the fines are for driving a turbo car while on your P's in NSW?

I can't find anything about it on the RTA website, if someone has a link than that would be cool?

I'm asking because my mate needs a 2nd driver to drive his turbo R33 back from sydney while he drives the turbo subaru he picks up from sydney back to newcastle..

i would stay well clear of this....

the reason i say this is you cou8ld lose your license for some time cause of this....

There is a clause that you can drive a turbo car if it is an emergency but i highly doubt this would be the case!

Yeah I think I'll stay clear then, thought it was loss of license but just wasn't 100% sure..

Cheers

Well, they'd have to catch you, right.. so if you're in a Turbo R33, they have no chance!

my mate got 6 months loss of licence and 1.5k fine..so not worth it although very tempting..this was in a audi a3 1.8t (took off the turbo badge and still got done )

also insurance will be void if your driving and u have a accident..

I thought you were aloud to drive under 2.0l turbo, an audi a3 turbo 1.8 wouldnt very quick anyway.

Yeah power to weight would be better... makes more sense anyway, since a VS V8 makes 168kw and my car makes 164kw standard, my car is P-plate legal and the commodore isnt.. wouldnt take much for me to get more than 170kw's and be more powerful than the V8..

I didn't realise until today though that there are some 6 cylinders your not allowed to drive;

The vehicles listed as 'Prohibited Vehicles' are high performance vehicles for the purposes of Clause 32 and may not be driven by the holder of a provisional licence. These vehicles are in addition to the prohibited vehicles that have eight or more cyclinders or are turbo or supercharged.

The vehicles listed as 'Exempted Vehicles' are not high performance vehicles for the purposes of clause 32 and may be driven by the holder of a provisional licence.

Novice Driver - High Performance Vehicle Restrictions
P1/P2 licence holders are also restricted from driving the following 6-cylinder vehicles:

*
BMW M and M3.
*
Honda NSX.
*
Nissan 350Z and 370Z.
*
All Porsches from 1994 models onwards.
*
Mercedes Benz SLK350.

Annex A listed below forms part of the publication and provides more detail about the listed prohibited models.
Exempted vehicles:

*
All diesel powered vehicles.
*
Suzuki Cappuccino 2D Cabriolet Turbo 3 698cc (1/01/1992 - 1/12/11997).
*
Daihatsu Copen L880 2D Convertible Turbo 4 659cc (1/10/2003- ).
*
Smart vehicles (all models).

Is it soooo hard to bot have a turbo for the 3 years the government says you're a s**t driver, at which point overnight you become a good driver.

Wait it out.

I'm not on my P's, i just think the government should change it, there are many NA cars out there that would be alot quicker than quite a few turbo cars. Thats why im saying they should have power to weight more than anything

But then they'd have to enforce no mods, or start doing dyno testing. Geez, imagine if some of the authorised dyno testing stations ran DD vs Mainline. LOL!
